Gang,
Red FAll Fling 06 @ Selma, Al. is one week away. For those that have not signed
up, please go to the RPA website or email me and let me know. For those that
have changed their minds and are not coming, again, please let me know. It is
time for the SAM's and Class VI run and a final head count would be nice. Currently
we are at 25 aircraft with pilots and 8 GIBs. Down from 33 last year. The
fuel will be @ $.50 over cost. The FBO is ordering a shipment this week so can
give that price later this week.
We are down to three IP's. So give a special thanks to Ski, Drew, and Pumper for
making the trip. They are not even in our region but are coming. The ones in
our region had other commitments and we do understand...You JUST OWE US A ROUND
A MAJ. GRUMBLES NEXT YEAR!
Be safe and look forward to seeing "ya'll" next week! To all the OCTOBER babies
in the crowd ..HAPPY BIRTHDAY..me included!
Chec 6 and be safe!

what is the preferred battery to use in the YAK 52? My aircraft has a
special connector in the battery compartment that appears to mate to a
connector that is with the battery.

We use two 12V gel batteries in series. Here's an example of the type.
http://www.elkproducts.com/products/elk-12180.htm. You'll have to put
new connectors on the leads and make a jumper between the + and -
terminals. No big deal.

My batteries gave up last month. I went to a "Batteries are Us" type of
place and found they stock this type of battery. He told me UPS uses this type
for backup in the trucks for the hand held device. The were under $50.00 each.
I also found the same type battery in the "Portable Jumper" kit at Wal-mart,
and that was even cheaper (39.95).
Just an idea.

Scooter,
There is a special intake gland nut wrench that enables you to tighten the
"castellated nuts" as you call them. The block as you called it is actually
the supercharger case. You may be able to find one by contacting Carl/Jill
Hays or Doug Sapp. The tool also comes in the Russian tool kit.

My cousin, Marcy Randolph, was on the Cessna 182, plane number N2700Q with the
pilot, William Westover, flying from Deer Valley to Sedona on 9/24 that has been
missing since that same Sunday afternoon. The Civil Air Patrol has been searching
since Tuesday 9/26. The Phoenix police are also continuing the search.
We the family are trying to touch people personally. We so greatly appreciate
the energy and time everyone has given us and are overwhelmed by the support and
caring of everyone we have come in contact with. That said we still dont have
the plane.
My request to you is outlined on the website under what you can do. Basically,
we want to rally any private pilots, any charter pilots, any forestry individuals,
medical carriers, flight school instructors and students, and anybody else
that might have a reason to be in the air and provide eyes in the sky in the
general northern Arizona region to be aware and keep their eyes and ears open.
Additionally, knowing that a great number of you enjoy the beautiful outdoors
of Arizona, either for hunting, camping, ohv riding, etc., we are asking that
you be acutely aware of this missing plane, and rally everyone that might be
on the ground in the general area. By providing areas you might have been, we
can help narrow the profile and thin the veritable haystack in which we are trying
to find the needle. Think outside the boxany information is good information.
At 9 days and counting, time is not on our side. We have recent information
that a plane was spotted briefly on radar approximately 4 miles west of Payson
at around 12:15pm 9/24. This may or may not be relevant.
The website for information exchange is http://www.N2700Q.com. Details of the LKP are contained in the introduction. Please take the flyer that is posted and distribute to your folks for briefing or feel free to forward this message to anyone you think might be able to assist us in our search. Your assistance and prayers are most appreciated.

Our annual chapter BBQ is fast approaching. As mentioned in the newsletter, on
the date of our next scheduled practice -- October 7th, 2006 -- we will meet at
Big T in Senoia for food, fellowship, and flying, though not necessarily in
that order. Mark Sorensen and Butch Walker will host this gathering which promises
to be a great time! Come out and join the fun.
Date/Time: 10/7/2006, 10:00 arrival at the earliest; ending late afternoon.
Invited: All chapter members, family, friends, Big T neighbors, aerobatic enthusiasts
(especially if they might want to join!) Fly in, drive, walk, whatever.
Food: Grilled stuff; probably hamburgers, hot dogs, etc.
Gas: Some gas will be available, but no cheaper than Tara.
Flying: There is space next to the field for practice and critiquing will be available,
but there is NO WAIVERED AIRSPACE at Big T.
Mark has offered to place cones to mark center field and 500 ft. to the end of
the runway (it's 2200ft long). If you decide you don't want to land there, Tara
and Falcon are not far away.
For more information on the field and how to get there, try Skyvector. Search
for 64GA in the Airport/VOR/Fix box. Map will center on Big T and provide current
METAR info for nearby reporting stations.
For field information, Airnav is a good source. It has an aerial picture of the
strip and lots of runway and navaid info.
122.85 is the field freq.
Left hand traffic for Rwy 34 and Right Hand traffic for Rwy 16.
For any field-related questions, call Mark at 678-463-5944.
If you are driving, Google Maps should help.
If you have questions, please contact Tim Walter via e-mail (president@iac3.org)
or 678-406-0620.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Folks,
Today we lost another great air show pilot and I lost another good friend. Dr.
Guy "Doc" Baldwin from Tulsa, Oklahoma died from injuries suffered in an accident
in the Tucumcari, NM air show.
Doc Baldwin was a really good friend of mine and I am asking all of you to say
a prayer for him. We regularly practiced together at the Claremore, OK airport
in the aerobatic box on non air show weekends and in the off season. Doc was
an Extra 300 pilot, and AME. He was a special individual, as are all of you
to me.
Doc was also a close personal friend of Rodger Modglin my partner.
God bless and God speed,
Pumper

If any of you are considering checking it out, I thought it was pretty good. Obviously
a lot of CGI, but still pretty good.
Anything with an airplane it in helps out...

Agree, it was a good movie. The computer animation was alittle bit much but
hey it's Hollywood.

That is good news for you guys out west. My question is when will the FAA institute
the proposed elimination of the restriction requiring notification of the
FSDO for any sortie planned to be outside of the 300 mi ops limits for the under
500 hp guys and the TO/ LND at only your home base along with the 600 nm restriction
on the > 500 hp aircraft.
