David Stroud......contact me off list (mlbjr@earthlink.net) to discuss American instrumentation for the Housai Engine. And yes, you can hand prop the engine w/o the shower of sparks operating. Marcus

Although it can be started on one mag, it should be started on both mags. I have started the M14P with standard M9F magnetos and a bad booster coil wire. Here is how I did it. Prepare the engine to start as you always do including pulling the prime through about 3-4 blades. Then start the rotation with the air start as you would normally do. When the rotation reaches its max speed, flip the mags on to 1 + 2. After you've pulled the prop through, primed etc. you hit the starter and that engages the air solenoid and shower of sparks ( incorrect name I think) simultaneously. As the engine begins to start, the mags get switched on and briefly the air, shower of sparks and mags all are engaged together. Do you normally need to have your left hand free to play with the throttle through all of this ? ie, would it be very important for me to configure the starter button/switch and mag switch to be activated with only one hand during the process? No need to send off for expensive custom made commie hoses. Most hoses o n CJ's and -52's can be replaced with US, but because they are different si zes (US v. Metric), you have to change the fittings to US, using the B-nuts o ff the commie fittings. Also, George Coy has hybrid US/metric fitting adapters--see his website gesoco.Com. Beware that some US hoses are stif fer than their commie counterparts, so may not make small radius bends. Noth ing wrong with commie hoses except availability, price and possible aging concerns. US hoses are readily available, cheap and fresh. BTW: My friend Jack Ady has a beautiful Fairchild 51 he's flown for many years, but it's got P&W R-1340 power--600hp. It's for sale--contact me f or info. P&W's are amazingly cheap (maybe cheaper than HS-6/M14's), even fro m name brand OH shops. Subject: A/C jacks
Gary, Yep, have full sets of factory new CJ jacks. A full set is made up of: 1 each "headed" jack which supports the engine 1 each tail jack which has a special bracket to hold the tail skid 2 each stub wing jacks which have the special "off set" to clear the gear doors All jacks have wheels on them for ease of moving them about in the shop. They also have a flat pad on each leg to allow use in the dirt or gravel without sinking in. All four jacks have a mechanical ratchet system for raising or lowering and are very easy to operate and require no safety's if you leave your aircraft up on jacks for an extended period of time. Price if is $285 each, but if you buy the set of 4 the price is $250 each. Have photos if you need them. Contact me off line if you have an interest. Phone 509-826-4610, email rvfltd@televar.com I also build hyd CJ jacks if you would rather have that style. Price is $285 each. Subject: Re: Barry Hancock
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Jim Bernier" <JBernier@dart.org> Dave The CJ uses a 24 volt system. Instead of reinventing the wheel I left it intact. I only removed those systems that I didn't need or wanted to upgrade. ADF out, radio replaced, AH kept. And so on. I decided to use two gel cell batteries. Doug Sapp suggested to use the Odyssey Batteries. Great choice. I hooked them up in series for the 24 volts. And drew off one for the 12 volts. This created an uneven draw between the two batteries. Brian Lloyd suggested using a battery balancer to solve the uneven draw. It works. I also placed a battery charger in the plane that charges 24 volts. And the balancer is working all of the time. Robbing Peter to pay Paul so to say. The batteries stay at the same level. I could have use the balancer to reduce the 24 VDC to 12 VDC, but if it went out I would lose my radio and GPS and strobe. Selecting between 24 and 12 VDC is almost a personal choice. Select the radio, nav system, lighting etc., and see what you want. I understand that you are using the HS6. It starts on 24 VDC. You may want to use the coil and air start valve, that comes with the engine, instead of trying to change it to 12 VDC. Although the change isn't difficult. If you are concerned about weight, then go with a single volt system. If weight isn't a problem, then as a guy "the world is your toilet". Do what makes you smile. The best way is subjective. Keep us informed of your progress. Jim >>> dstroud@storm.ca 10/19/2006 5:48 PM >>> Jim...any way you could elaborate on the benefits of 24 and 12 volt buss and how it was achieved? If you were doing a straight homebuilt, would you go 12 or 24v ? Thanks.. Let me know if I can assist. I've attached a photo of my plane. I've altered many areas. Taylor wire, spark plugs, alternator, aux. fuel plug, pre-oiler, K&N air filters, on board charging system, 24 and 12 volt buss, and dropped the weight by 254 lbs.
