Pappy:
Congratulations! That was a life-time accomplishment that so many pilots
have only dreamed of doing. No doubt the entire RPA is proud of you.

T-28 list:
Around 7PM last night Sleiman Salibi was returning home from OSH with
his newly acquired engine. After a stop in STL he reported that
everything was going well and no performance problems. He refueled the
plane himself and left for Lake Charles LA. A 3 hour flight. He was
suppose to arrive at 7:30 PM. He called Alexandria LA at about 7PM and
reported low fuel and that he was diverting. He was lost on radar
shortly afterwards. A SAR helicopter was sent out immediately but
quickly returned because of weather. He was last reported over a large
National forest north of Alexandria. The LA air guard and CAP have
resumed the search today. No ELT signal identified. Lets pray for a
good outcome on this.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I just received word from Misty
through Skydoc that they found the wreckage of Sleiman's plane with his body
in
it 25 miles north of Alexandria, LA. No other details are available at this
time. She asked that I put this message on the T-28 net to inform all their
friends. When I get word of the funeral arrangements, I will post them.

Subject: | Battery Question |
In September 2005, I put two new Gill G25S 12 volt batteries in my CJ to
which I attached a 24 volt battery tender. This past Saturday, I discovered that
they were shot after a mere 13 months. I have perhaps been mistaken in
believing that keeping batteries fully charged was good practice. Without using
a
battery tender, the last set a batteries lasted about three years. What is it
that I fail to understand --- yet again? Thanks, Blitz

This is a sad day. Sleiman was one of the first guys to show up in his CJ
when we started the MTW gathering at OSH. He was enthusiastic about formation
and did a really good job at it. On the wall of my den here is a picture of
the first guys to fly at OSH. Brain Lloyd, Hal Morley, Salibi, and myself
are standing by Hal's CJ.. There is also a picture of him with Brain ex wife
sitting on his lap giving him a smooch when we were all at a bar in OSH and
having great time. I was sorry to see him leave our Redstar group and move up
to the T-28. It was always great fun to catch up with him at S&F & OSH
where we'd have good natured jab about each others airplanes. He had done such
a
fine job of getting his 28 on the ground at OSH when the engine started to
quit - I was proud of him. He really loved flying. He will be missed by the
T-28 guys for sure.
