Subject: | Re: Lost MP readings |
Martin,
A simple way to ground check the manifold gauge function is to see if it correlates
with the ambient altimeter pressure engine off.
The Russian MP gauge measures in mmHg (torr) which is conveniently 3/4 (0.7500615
to be pedantic) of your (UK) altimeter millibar reading ... i.e. 1000mb equates
to 750mmHg.
Easiest way to calculate this is to take 3/4 of ambient pressure variation from
1000mb and factor this against 750mmHg ... so 1020mb => 3/4 x (1020mb - 1000mb)
= 15mmHg + 750mHg = 765mmHg
The manifold gauge is only marked in 20mmHg divisions so this will not give a particularly
accurate reading ... especially as its probably never been re-calibrated
since manufacture.
However it should be good enough to ascertain whether the MP gauge is working or
not to help with your fault finding.
FYI ... on my 52 the MP gauge reads 10mmHg low against the altimeter reading.
Hope this helps.
Cheers, Rob

Has anyone heard from Brian Lloyd on the progress of the over voltage device that
he was developing? I have two email address' and neither work. He may be lost

Jim,
The last I heard was he had it ready to test and had talked with Blitz
about installing it on his aircraft. That is the last that I have heard on
it. That was right after Xmas of this last year or early March.

Well that comment had nothing to do with the subject line of overvoltage, so
I thought I would change that.

Hi all,
I replaced my old ZIABRIK radio by a new BRIZ (which works perfectly, tested
in a lab). But when installed, it sometimes works, sometimes does not.
I discovered that I only have 3 volts on the supply wire when switching on
the "radio" button on the front panel. First I thought it was the battery,
but I checked it, and it's in perfect shape.
One of the symptoms : I hear some "clicking" or "ticking" in the headset,
and usually after 3 to 4 minutes, it switches on. As if one or another relay
tries to switch on ?
It's definitely not the new radio, since I am using a provisional bypass,
connecting it immediately to the battery - until the problem is solved. The
problem is not introduced with the new radio either, since with the old
radio, I had the same problem. This is the reason why I was forced to
replace the old radio (thinking it was dead).
Any idea ?
Best regards,
