With interest I read the comments about smoking planes systems. I noted the filling system is historic and messy.! A better system which we use is this pump http://www.reversopumps.com/downloads/sales/Reverso_GP301DC.pdf then reverse the direction (of pump) to suck the smoke oil up from a can. Use quick connect high flow airline fittings for this purpose. So simple and clean to operator. Instead of carrying funnels and jugs and rags around with you at shows all you need is a length of flex hose with the fitting on the end. Mail me of list of you want the wiring drawing I use. Hope this helps someone. Congratulations Craig. Steve and I discussed your airplane while he was doing the pre-buy inspection. I'm looking forward to seeing you at one of the Red Star events in the near future. Yesterday I became the proud owner of a YAK 52K serial 9912205, tail N90GC. I picked up the aircraft in Kansas City and flew it back to Ohio. The aircraft is now based at the Union County airport in Marysville Ohio (MRT). Special thanks to Stephen Beaver who accompanied me to Kansas, went over the aircraft from spinner to tail for the pre-buy. Steve also flew back with me in the YAK giving me training all along 525 mile trip. I'm sure there will be a few things I'll want to do the aircraft in the upcoming year. Number one will be to get the analog western style fuel gauges to match up with the senders. If anyone has some instruction on performing that calibration, please pass that on to me. The aircraft has a small toggle on the right side that switches the fuel gauges from the main to the aux tanks. None of them read correctly. Number two will be to install an EI fuel flow indicator. If anyone has experience with installing the fuel flow transducer such as best location and where to buy the proper connectors or adaptors and hose fittings, I would greatly appreciate that info. I'm looking forward to flying the YAK and meeting/flying with other owners in the Ohio are or in nearby states! Get intouch with me offline at craig@ustek.com if you're in my area. Craig Schneider

Jeff, I know you are passing what you believe and I don't want you to stop. I value your input and experience. I believe that this kind of input (Warnings) are key to why people are on the list. The concept of a Unit Challenge Coin is a long traditi on in the Armed Forces and has spread to non military organizations as w ell (Police, SWAT, Fire Department, etc.) and we've recently sent the RedStar Pilots Association's mock up for our own coin to be minted. The basic tradition of the unit coin is simple; keep i t on hand at all times, it represents membership in the organization, if fo r any reason, voluntary or by accident, a coin is produced and struck or tapped against anything solid (as in the case it were to be inadvertantly dropped), this signifies a "coin check" of all present w ithin earshot. Those members unable to produce their coin are obliged t o buy the round for those who do. Tradiationally your unit coin can not be drilled or fastened with a permenante ring or other retainer for st ring or necklace, it needs to be retained in its original condit ion except for personal identification (some folks etch their call signs in to the coin). All our coins (1.75 inches) will carry the unit insignia on the front and a formation of of our most popular aircraft in det ail raised relief on the back and are multi-colored and numbered. If our jet aircraft membership rises in 2007 a coin will be struck with a differant back, but the front will always retain the unit insignia of the association. Clinic/Fly-in organizers will be issued the coins for re-s ale at events at a break even cost of around $8-10.00 each based on final production fees. And soon afterward they will be avaialble to "memb ers only" through the store. ________________________________ Your Parade Formation Qualification We are working to finish up the new Formation Training Folders and Solo Formation Training Cards. These are tools for the student of formation and the clinic instructor to improve our clinic training. Wing, Lead candidates and Instructors will see these tools, and expla nation of their use, at clinics in 2007. Along with an updatred manual the RPA will have some excellent training tools for some time to come. Another item on our list for "The Year In Training" is a rec ord of your accomplishments in pursuit of your formation skills. We've designed exceptionally nice certificates for Four Ship Wingman-in-Train ing Solo criteria and of course the Wing and Flight Lead Certific ate for successful completion of your practical test/check ride. The se are being professionally produced for mounting on a hero wall in y our den or in the hangar. I was the board member who recommended this. First, I have received a number of the coins from different outfits as tokens of appreciation for something I did or just being a nice guy. The Lima Lima pilots gave me one at ICAS and the Ai r Force Master Chiefs gave me one. I really appreciated receiving them but w ith them of course, comes the traditions that Drew pointed out. Who gives them out? Just about all the best outfits around. Special units and squadrons in the different services mostly. From Navy Seals to Air For ce One. Lately even police/fire departments have started issuing them. I would like to think RPA ranks in there somewhere. The coins costs, to me, are nothing to what they mean or try to convey to other members. They are mean t to be a keepsake. There are already collectors out there vying for them already. Who knows, maybe in 100 years your great-great-great child, will discover your coin in some forgotten box, and become a billionaire (due to inflation) allowing th em to take a quite trip to Mars for a holiday. It was great information! If I did not have some local guys to hit me over the head about the safety aspects of the smoke systems, I would have certainly made mistakes for sure. Now, I hope everyone out there will give their systems a look more often, whomever made it.. David _____ From: owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Jeff Linebaugh Sent: Thursday, January 11, 2007 11:24 PM Subject: Yak-List: Smoke Systems Fox-Men and Tom, Didn't mean to step on your toes with my comments about the smokingairplanes.com smoke system: I am sure you are extra careful in maintaining your airplanes, and I am glad they are working well for you. I just want to put forth words of caution to those thinking of smoke systems in their airplanes. I try to error to the safe side when it comes to airborne vehicles, especially ones with just one motor and no ejection seat . This is just my opinion: plastic fittings and flammable liquids should not go together, even on the back side of the firewall. I should have known better when I saw the system components, and feel that my experience with the cracked fitting/leak was my wake-up call to knock-it-off and do it right. I felt compelled to share my concerns and experience. Jeff Linebaugh jefflinebaugh@earthlink.net F1 Rocket #33 N240KT Memphis, TN.

If it doesn't go into the RPA FAST training manual, it should at least be presented to every new member that gets their wing card! And re-current training should be required. -----Original Message----- From: owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com]On Behalf Of Daniel Fortin Sent: Friday, January 12, 2007 2:32 PM Subject: Yak-List: Should we... SB, The correct phraseology is: "Lead, you are trailing flames." Deducting that flames are associated with a fire require a level of comprehension beyond that of a wingman D ;-) >From: "Phil Cogan" <zeromold@earthlink.net> >To: <yak-list@matronics.com> >Subject: RE: Yak-List: Should we... >Date: Fri, 12 Jan 2007 16:18:43 -0500 > > >Where's the drinking part? >Lead, you're on fire... >Shortbus > >-----Original Message----- >From: owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com >[mailto:owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Daniel Fortin >Sent: Friday, January 12, 2007 3:32 PM >To: yak-list@matronics.com >Subject: Yak-List: Should we... > > >Shouls we include this in the new RPA FAST training manual? > >http://www.drunkard.com/issues/06_06/06_06_wingman.html > >

As we know, leads soon explain to neophyte wingmen that lead only wants to hear three radio calls: "Two's bingo", "Lead you're on fire" and "I'll take the ugly one." The latter is inappropriate to put in the body of the FAST Formation Manual. It does strike me, however, that in the comm. section there should be a footnote which will direct the attentive reader to this detailed appendix of the wingman's social duties. Well done, Dan. ...Blitz
