It's cheating, but it works. Don't go too thick with the tape; else you'll crimp the tubing. Swagelok for tube products. www.swagelok.com For the 6mm, use regular stainless or aluminum 1/4" tube. Use a Swagelok 1/4 to 1/4 union (Part number: SS-400-6). $9.50 For 8mm use the Part number: SS-500-6 ($10.50) They have metric reducing unions also but they are harder to get and more expensive. This fitting requires no tricky flares, but instead uses a patented double ferrule. All you do is cut your line clean, slide this on, turn it 1.25 revs and you are done. It squeezes down perfectly on the 6mm tube and makes a perfect connection to the 1/4 tube section. Swagelok products are not cheap, but of amazing quality. Once you have used the no-flare "Tubelok" system you will never flare again. The standard aircraft flaring tool works perfectly with the 8 mm tubing as the O.D. is the same. I did not suggest the use of the standard flare tool with the 6 mm tubing though this can be done very successfully with an appropriate shim (I use a piece of 400 grit wet-or-dry) If you can obtain a metric aircraft standard flaring tool I would be interested in purchasing one. Industrial or Automotive units may be something other than 74 degs.
