As I am sure other people will point out, this aeroplane is either
Yak-53 or a 52 converted to single seater.
The 53 was conceived as high performance long-life aerobatic aircraft,
but always as a middle step between 52 and 50, but without the short
'lifetime' of the 50.
It is obviously lighter than the 52, lacking front cockpit; front
controls etc and indeed a second occupant, but still significantly
heavier than a 50 with tricycle gear etc.
Yakovlev only built three 53's, but I know of at least two 52's that
have been converted to become 53's.
Interestingly Yakovlev put quite a lot of effort into a ground - attack
version of the 52 for use in Afghanistan when the "rebels" started
proving quite successful with heat-seeking missiles, against Su-25's.
However this version never saw service.

Troops,
As some of you might know fellow RPA member Eilon Krugma-Kadi was kill at
the TICO airshow this last Friday.
This is of course way to short a notice, but today there will be a service
for him at the Gainsville (GNV) airport at 1500L (3pm).
There will be a missing man formation.
It'd be nice if more of us RPA folks could be there. We would need to be
there by 1400L ( 2pm).
If you can do so on such short notice - do so safely.

Just returned from the memorial service for Eilon Krugma-Kadi. Eilon was
kill in his L-39 last Friday during the TICO airshow.
Thanks to Erie Martinez who showed up on an hour's notice.
We had 7 aircraft show up. We had 4 ship fly the "Missing Man" formation
behind a three ship Vic, at the end of the ceremonies. A bunch of guys from
RPA, VAC, CAF and T-34 groups did the honors.
There were a lot of friends that filled a hangar at GNV. Eilon was a well
known attorney in the Gainesville area. He had two older children from a
previous marriage and a brand new baby.

Subject: | OSH 2008 Committee |
Time is a wasting. We need to get the committee for the 2008 CJ-6 50th
anniversary up and running. So far I have 2 people for a possible 10 + man
committee.
Positions ;
Flight Operations Officer + helper
Special Flight Operation Officer.
Ground Operations Officer + helper
Finance Officer
Public Affairs Officer
Activities and Do-dad Officer + helper
Plus whatever I haven=99t thought of + helper.
Every organization has an event in its history that marks and legitimizes
its existence. This is that watershed event for our organization. On my
=9Chero
wall=9D in my den are pictures of the first 4 or 5 guys who flew that
first
time at OSH, when we were just a club. Some have =9Cgone West
=9D and some still
make that OSH pilgrimage each year. We=99ve seen the numbers grow s
lowly to a
steady 25 to 30 aircraft. To legitimately enter that 50th anniversary
category, and =9Ccome of age=9D so to speak, we need to put 50
CJ-6s over that
airfield. And we need to plan an event that no self respecting CJ-6 pilot
will dare
miss. Plus we want our Yak brothers to not want to miss the spectacle
either. That will legitimatize us as pilots who made the right choice to b
uy,
fly, and love our machines.

Some of the honchos at EAAWB have already let me know they are all for us
and awaiting our plans. We have some ideas afoot but only a committee can
hash
out the realities and either discard them or punch them through.
Give me a call (386-559-1942 cell or 386-467-3313) or e-mail

I need the help.
