Does anyone have it or a link to it? We've had some unusually good weath er in England so the 18T has been quite busy. +4 and -2 yesterday. Lovely! Sadly my friend Christophe in France had an incident with his 18 last wee k. He says that he'd been flying his Cub with tight curved approaches befor e taking the Yak out. Misjudged his approach and caught the left wing tip just before flaring to land. He's fine but the aircraft....... I have seen an AOPA video on the additional charges made along the route of flight for an IFR sortie leaving UK and ending in GY. How do those fees affect the VFR pilot? It seems our senate has proposed a bill that leaves the current piston aircraft alone for now. Key word is for now. Anytime the government targets something for additional tax revenue to distribute to the socially deprived less fortunate unable to work because I don't have to the governemt takes care of me societal segement, it is only a matter of time before the wolf comes to the door again. So saying all that I would like to learn more of how your system works and what you do to minimise the impact of the govermental fingers pilfering your hard earned wallet. If you are new to formation ops and interestd in getting started, this is a great opportunity to see where the program is heading (should be plenty of empty seats for an observation flight if desired) We will: - Have a discussion group/plans session on dates and locations for a proposed annual event - Conduct a formation ground school and overview of the new formation manual tools - Conduct form flight training, rec rides and evals as required - Have fun, meet who's who in this area... From: "Tim Gagnon" Most us know of what happened to this Yak-50 when the bottle detonated. The bottle in my -50 pinholed not too long ago and it has been quite difficult...make that impossible..to find a replacement. I have gone to a -52 bottle (not cheap) that will have to be remotely mounted. This is the second bottle (other was emer) I have replaced due to their poor prior MX history. People, you need to make damn sure you are taking care of your bottles. When I get the mine installed, I plan on cutting my trashed one in half to see the level of corrosion and damage. Also, think ahead and consider what you will do when (not if but when) your bottle needs replaced. For the Yak-52 folks, your better off than us -50 owners. (Price to pay for owning one of the coolest airplanes on the planet). We need to figure out a long term solution NOW and we must do it collectively. The bottles that are "new" are just a bandaid. We need something semi-impervious to corrosion. Carbon Fiber is what I think is best. Unfortunately to have a sphere type bottle manufactured is freaking expensive. How much is expensive, I had one quote of almost $10,000! Looks as though a cylinder is the way to go but requires modification of the airplane and mount. I have seen a -50 with this set up and it is really nice and has four times the capacity of the current bottles...plus some other nice stuff. Someone smarter than me needs to make a "kit" for replacing these things. They will need replaced...it is just a matter of time. Here is a link the post accident report. Think about that happening airborne! From: "Scooter" A 4500psi/88cu.ft. carbon fiber tank is around $500. Something like this would be nearly indestructable. Seems that there might be something rated to a lower pressure and cheaper. http://www.straightshooters.com/pcpitems/carbon88.html Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=110885#110885 ________________________________ Message 10 ____________________________________ Time: 03:23:26 PM PST US From: "Craig Payne" Subject: Yak-List: Re: Aviation User Fees I have also seen a news report that "user fees" may include up to 50 cents a gallon tax to GA , but not the airlines. NBAA, AOPA, GAMA and EAA all are united against users fees. Our job is to contact our Senators and Congressmen to express opposition and urge them to defeat this re authorization bill. Yes, the General Accounting Office has made it quite clear the FAA financial management is one of the worst managed, if not THE worst managed in the government. It seems like our elected officials have completely ignored that fact.
