Absolutely, I'm currently 3 for 3 -- you, Aaron Singer and, as of All Red
Star at Porterville, John Long. His Comanche ( a fine aircraft) is now for sale
and he's in the hunt for a CJ. He's making conservative noises about selling
the Comanche first, but we'll see.

Wait, not that I'm biased, but John is the perfect size for a Yak.

Was AllRedStar '07 so bad nobody wants to talk about it? How about a report for
Way Far away folks.

Very much to the contrary, ARS was spectacular once again this year. I've
now been to all six of them, and, as brother Steve is fond of observing, "Once
again, there was not an adult in sight all weekend."
Barry Hancock and his crew always knock themselves out, and Porterville
residents couldn't be more welcoming. The Ops Tent, actually the type one would
get
married in, was the place for briefing, debriefing, dining and drinking at
day's end. While our nearby hotel provided a free breakfast, lunch and dinner
were beautifully catered in the tent, complete with radient heaters when it was
chilly and kegs of draft.
Perhaps someone has an accurate count of aircraft, but it must have been
north of 50 -- CJs, Yak 52s & 50s, L-39s, T-34s and a couple Marcettis (sp?).
Obviously, much FAST training and Red Stars mass formation practice went on
daily. Air Boss, "Postal", our active duty Naval Aviator, was LSO for the
carrier landing competition and lived up to the traditional view that an LSO is
a
"one-eyed, blind, pig-@#$%er." Can't recall who won. I was too busy sucking on
my slurpy cup of "Barbie" Ekberg's Long Island Ice Tea Special.
I won several awards about which I'm too modest to discuss here. Roy Will had
the "Best Yak" and Ron Lee, the "Best CJ", commonly referred to as the CJ
Escalade Award. Ron's has a cappuccino machine in the back seat because he comes
from LA. Finally, the San Diego Escadrille won the ARS Formation Challenge
with a highly rehearsed and flawless performance in their Yak 52s.

Patience Mr. Payne. You can read all about ARS in the next issue of
Red Alert. However as a tease Barry Hancock and crew put on another
outstanding event 51 planes CJs, Yaks, L39s, T-34s, Marchetti and one
Grumman Albatross.

Yes, I still have an Archer for sale.3.5 years later! She occasionally
serves a purpose. Serving as an IFR platform for when I really need to from
marginal to better weather on a schedule.
