Denis,
I usually try to get temps down to around 150 for the circuit and
landing. I haven't seen the 170 on final in any of my manuals and she
runs really well doing what we've been doing. Fancy meeting up at
Elstree one day? I need to connect with Harry Winter who I think is
instructing there and also meet with Tim Debois @ Flight Logistics re
filming work.

There are several guys here in Memphis that would like to be the first to
throw stones at Greg at Blue Mountaintheyve had a terrible timeAsk Barry
Hancock about his Blue Mountain experiences Pappy, didnt you have some
trouble with your installation (lack of product support?)
Nobody has mentioned the Grand Rapids system (or Advancedwhich has a very
nice display!)
I now have flown with a Grand Rapids EFIS system in my sorta-yak for 6
months. I looked at them allas you shouldto pick out what best suits your
needs. The nice thing about the GRT system is that it is a PFD, moving map
and EMS all in one. You can split the screens anyway you like. The size is
not too bog, not too small (for my needs). It will display GPS, VOR and ILS
data very easily. One drawback is that it needs a separate AHRS box mounted
(not a very big deal). Check out their website, or drop me a line for more
info
The newer Dynons were not available when I purchasedthey look like a pretty
good deal too as they now have the ability to display some nav information.
Attached a picture of my panel FYI

Mike,
I had to reskin my -55M aileron due to a crash. It was a little
challenging, but 'tis certainly doable. Let me know if you need one
fabricated.

It should not be a problem to keep shut-down temperatures below 150=B0.
It would seem that your engine is running hot, and you should change for
a smaller compensating jet. (Rob Kent at White Waltham has complete
sets).
Also it is a question of technique - that is making sure the engine is
well cooled down (but not too cold) on landing, so that you can taxi in;
run it for 25 seconds at 65% to scavenge the oil and clean the plugs
before shutting down, and still have it below 150=B0.

Lionel,, Gary Gabbard in Las Vegas, CJ, N22YK... I have owned the Strong Squadron
Seat Packs ever since they first came out... They fit the CJ perfectly, are
very comfortable to set on, I have recommended them to several of my friends
who have bought them and they are very happy with them, and as for the Strong

I bought a pair of 304's several years ago from "The Parachute Shop"
w/ 2" cushions. Very comfortable to sit on. Got really good price.
Their web site is: http://www.parachuteshop.com/ They usually have

Subject: | Re: Cooling before shut-down |
Richard
Many thanks for the suggestions. I am realising from the replies that I've
been trained to stick to the higher end of the CHT range, which seems to be
not the norm. The instructor who trained me suggested that I keep it high --
180 to 200 -- quoting a professor at his air force college. I'd get a
reprimand any time I allowed CHT to drop to 160. I could easily stick to 150
on final (still a safe margin to the published minimum of 120) and then it
will all cool down quickly as you say.
I am curious though if anyone has a view as to which end of the range is
better for the engine to operate at, as it is quite wide -- 140 to 190
recommended and up to 220 allowed for prolonged operation (as per 18T flight
manual). And does the use of the western oil change any numbers from the old
Soviet books?
Regards
Denis

Subject: | Oopsie...need hangar in South Carolina, not North! |
Hi all, I have a 90% chance of being in Sumter, SC for four months starting in
early June thru mid Oct. I have a Yak 55 and would like to find a place to keep
my plane while I am out there. Please search around and let me know the name
of anyone that might be willing to share a hangar or has one temporarily available
in about a 75 mile radius.
thanks in advance!
