The Bear is significanly faster in cruise (210 KTAS v. 180 KTAS), burns 1/3 the fuel (15 gph v 45 gph for the afore mentioned numbers), is a NEW airframe....and cost perflight hour is about 1/10th of what a T-28 is. Don't get me wrong, I really like the T-28...have about 35 hours PIC in our good friend Walt Fricke's airplane...it's really a CJ on steroids. But at 90 gph at Take off and 45-50 for 180 KTAS, and big maintenance costs, you can fly an L-39 for about the same money. That being said, the cool factor of sitting up high, lighting off that big radial, and pouring the coals to it on take off is hard to match! At the end of the day they are all cool airplanes....and enough different shapes and styles for all of us. My problem is I seem to like 'em all! LOL! The purpose of kit planes is that you are supposed to a get a ton of airplane for not a lot of money. This does not meet that standard. Look at the Thunder Mustang (which is a rockin' airplane!!!), stunning performance, good looks, cheap to operate (relative) and the thing failed to garner many buyers and simply went away. Why? Too much money among other things. There's a well cut into both sides of the cylinder just below the spark plug holes. This would be a good choice for a surface mounted probe. A wrap around wire clip would easily hold a probe on. The one that has appeared at SNF for 2 years now and sat over at Columbia ramp until a few weeks ago with no canopy cover? If so, I hope that the production version is a lot better finished. This is a tough crowd. To give some credit to Barry here. I can appreciate the time and engineering that went into this thing! Now with that said..... 200K for it? You fallen down bumped your head and skinned your knees too! I wouldnt spend 200K for a new Yak either. Just not worth it! As far as a t-28 goes Its a T-28! If I had 200K to spend on a t-28 then.. I dont give a rats ass about the fuel either! I have to agree with Tim here! I fly a Yak 50 because.. I cant afford a real war bird! Yaks used to be bang for the buck! When the buck gets bigger then the bang.look for something else! Some of the prices I see coming from the Yak plant. are insane and only an Idiot would pay that kind of money for a 52. When they have them piled up and cant sell them, maybe they will think twice. Barry a word from a consumer in times of a crappy economy: Screw the glass panel! No one with a real WB has one. Save that stuff for the powder puff plastic airplanes with ballistic parachutes! Engineer the cost out of it, and invest in someone with experience to make it look better. Keep the nose to the grindstone! Then Again. there is an ass for every seat -------- You built and fly an RV.......BIG DEAL!!!!
