Oil accumulates from *nowhere* and *everywhere* at the same time and will migrate through that high temp fabric until the day a fire starts. Perhaps it will happen while you still are on the ground, perhaps. Reno racers with nice dry flat engines use the wrap, especially on tightly cowled Formula midgets and Sport class racers. Let me know if anyone sees it done on round engines. The wrap will wick the oil then catch fire. The wrap also, is not used for sealing in gasses. It is used as a shield to keep heat in and out. For turbocharged motors to keep it in, as hotter gasses move faster. Non turbo motors, to keep it from radiating heat to other items in the general area. Plus the long term damage done to the exhaust tubing under it makes it not a good idea. The exhaust on our flying tool sheds.. is not that cheap to replace. -----Original Message----- From: owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com]On Behalf Of Craig Payne Sent: Sunday, September 09, 2007 6:58 AM Subject: Yak-List: Fabric Wrap Exhaust There's a problem with wrapping the exhaust systems on our engines: oil.
