Well, with all the international flying students filling our
freq's....I find this an appropriate message...at least they are
*trying*. In particular, I'm impressed by the Teddy Roosevelt
statement....enjoy.

Subject: | Re: Air start issue |
Just an update on this problem, which I solved. As is often the case, look at
the simplest things first.
The -52W's and TW's have a UMA tach generator attached to the drive off the center
of the air distributor. This tach generator uses a washer (spacer) to maintain
the proper clearance at the attach point to allow the air to flow correctly
thru the distributor.
Long ago, I once accidentally installed the tach generator without this spacer.
Then when I hit the start button I could hear the air solenoid activate, but
the prop never moved. Luckily, I found the spacer when I opened the cowl, realized
my error, and installed it correctly. Then air start then worked fine.
So...I was suspicious of this spacer issue again, and pulled off the tach generator.
Lo and behold, I found TWO spacers installed! I have no idea how this
happened. But, after removing one, the air start system is working fine again.
Apparently, this spacer is critical in allowing air to flow freely thru the air
distributor.
I am VERY thankful I didn't have to mess with that air spider!!

Subject: | M-14 idle mixture |
Many of us have noticed that M-14's from Romania have idle mixtures that are too
rich. They puff black smoke (and even flames at night) when idling. I do not
know why the factory does this, but it seems fairly common. The good news
is that it isn't difficult to fix.
I finally got around to adjusting mine and am VERY happy with the result. It is
a little bit of a pain as you need to pull the bottom exhaust section off on
the right side to get at it (unless you have hands and fingers like a spider),
but is a very simple adjustment screw once you can get at it.
If you do adjust this mixture, remember this mixture screw is an air bleed (not
fuel) adjustment. So, to lean the mixture open the valve (counter-clockwise).
It took eight clicks of leaning to get mine where it seems good.
It idles better now and has a lot less stumble if you goose the throttle from idle
to a higher setting.
Cheers,
Steve

Bdogg,
Need to send that to Barbara Boxer! All of our "elected" representatives and
sneaketors need to listen to this! Maybe they will get the message! Since
we are talking about the United States in this thread. Our old country
friends could careless about this argument since the EU is made up of more
languages than Carter has Little Liver Pills for.
On second thought, since Hilary wants to give everyone newborn in the US
$5000.00 at birth to use for "future education" if elected, SHE IS ONE THAT
WOULD NOT GET THAT SONG.
I know this had nothing to do with flying YAKS or CJs.
So, here is a friendly reminder.

Thanks for the tips. Need to do the same on mine soon. Would you, by any chance,
