Deep 6 vis is non existent but it has that P-40 look. Definitely different.
Used for a movie as Lavochkins. I think that particular airplane has been put
back into original condition and may even be in the US now.

It is certainly modified.
I was told that it was modified for a movie to look like a Great
Patriotic War fighter plane. Come to think of it, it does resemble a
Lavochkin quite a bit. Attached is a photo that I took of at at
Zhukovsky on August 23rd.

Don't know if the email from my palm got through. If not let me know. Answer
is yes. Have you got your back seat setup for IFR the same as the front.
Traditionally, (in the AF student training) that is, the instrument check
ride is flown from the backset under a hood (generally with a curtain pulled
over the backset of the tandom trainer). Later in the course of training or
once operational the check ride may be flown with the IP flying on your wing
on a formation approach in VMC weather with the IP monitoring the approach
from the chase position.
Some of the AF/Navy prior life IPs can elaborate more.

Subject: | Last day of the tour & nomex |
Pappy,
Being off the tour has its pluses and minuses.
As for the appearance of the aviator in his spiffy Nomex atire, well the CO
(along with your fellow squadron mates) would remind you quit quickly if you
were slipping out of the "image". Generally they would get one's attention
with the CO's comment of something like" when's the due date?" On the
occasion that I had enjoyed the nectar of the hops and strayed from the gym
to long. However during times that I was flying 3 sorties a week weight
control was not an issue. Being young and foolish did not hurt either! The
problems started after crossing the 4th decade mark and now 5th Decade MARK!
Face it, we Americans and others too, enjoy an abundant life style. For all
that we can thank our Creator for! To have the privilege to break the
surless in the iron we get to fly and drink a beer with your buds afterward
talking flying is a true blessing. Now when you get to add some Viper time
to that, then life really is good! 1.6 Friday!

Subject: Yak-List: Last day of the tour & nomex
Well I flew the last ride of the season on the B-24 here at St. Augustine.
The air was smooth and CAVU. I let the co-pilot make his first takeoff and
landing and he did well. Tomorrow we set course south to New Smyna where
airplanes will be for the next 2 mouths going though heavy maintenance at
American Aero. The B-24 is due for an engine change (#3) and a change to
P2V brakes. Their parts are more really availible. Also she will have new
fuel tanks installed.
Me and my CJ are going to spend some time together. I plan on adding MX
weather to my AvMap GPS. Than I'll add a audio panel and a "plug and Play"
wiring box, that will simplify the wiring behind the panel. Than I'll be
putting an autopilot in. Nothing fancy, just a heading and GPS course, wing
leveler. Altitude hold will come much later. Some touch-up painting.
Than I've been working of a super secret speed enhancement project that will
bring me millions from the CJ pilots of America. :)))
It does not matter to get up set about the nomex issue. It would not matter
one iota to the dissenters, if 75% members voted to wear them. They would
not ever accept it. It does not matter that guys with the same back
grounds, experiences, and smarts as they, made those decisions with the best
of intention for those with far less experience. And even those decisions
were a compromise from far more "restrictions". They never really want to
be part of the sprite-de-corp because they consider it juvenile. One simply
need read the bemeaning statements they make about how some folks look in
"bags". I often wonder if they ever made those same view about nomex to
their CO's or to their corp while they played the game.
And now I hit the sack. Tomorrow I get to play with the B-24 one last time
for a while. Than I get to play with my CJ. Thus continues the game of
life - "bags" and all. :)

Subject: | A Possible Solution to the Nomex/Flight Suit Issue |
Folks:
Let me first preface this with the fact that I know many of you have been thru
this issue before. However, it seems as though no real solution was found or
there would not be the vehement responses posted by some members of the community.
I understand organizational value of a uniform for many reasons. All groups from
your local softball team to the Boy Scouts to the military wear uniforms.
So the founders of the RPA wanted participants at RPA events to look like they
were part of an organization and not just a gaggle of pilots who fly airplanes
the have engines that turn the wrong way and leak oil all over the ground.
So I was thinking about why my cadets, their parents and us senior members go out
and spend money to buy uniforms for CAP. It is so we can participate in what
CAP offers and not just be a member. You see, CAP has people who pay dues
that we never see at meetings, in airplanes or anywhere else. Then there are
those of us who buy uniforms so we can participate because we find value in not
just being a member but participating in the organization. The value of participation
is the training, fun, friendship, etc.
Now for the good part. CAP has two types of uniforms. One is a military style
uniform and the other is called a corporate uniform. To wear military style
uniforms, you must meet height, weight and grooming standards of the USAF. The
sage green flight suit is one of these along with Class A, Class B and BDUs.
To be inclusive of members who do not want to, or cannot, meet grooming standards,
or height weight requirements, in comes the corporate uniform. It is a blue
sport shirt with the CAP logo (two styles approved) and grey pants and black
shoes. There is also an alternate flight suit that is navy blue and is not
made of nomex.
So here is what the RPA could do. Come up with an alternate uniform to the flight
suit for RPA events. It could be something like the RPA red polo shirt (with
logo) and some color pants, and appropriate shoes. This way, those who want
to wear flight suits can and those that don't could wear the alternate uniform
and could participate in RPA events. This keeps the organization cohesive,
fosters esprit-de-corps, and is inclusive of all members.
Thanks for your time. Thoughts please,
Craig

Subject: | Yak 52 vs CJ 6 Flight Charistics |
I am presently in the market for a Yak 52 but am also considering the
CJ 6.
I've flown the CJ and have found it to be quite forgiving on reaching the stall
buffett in aerobatic high g turns. It doesn't want to break over the top
or snap . I've not flown the Yak but have read that the 52 will tend to snap over
the top in the same situation much like a SU 29. I've owned both a T-6 and
SU 29 and
understand stall spin charistics fairly well but I'd like input from the experienced
drivers in this forum on the specifics of the Yak.
