Sujet : Yak-List: A little Yak-50 fun!
This sortie was to try out a new camera and some shot angles. It is certainly
not good formation technique....but it was a buttload of fun. My wife shot the
video from a Christian Eagle. Another airplane shot some stills...
Straight and level SUCKS!!!!!

I have the JPI on mine and Ilove it. Works great. Was easy to install.
I replaced the pressure carb with an Airflow Performance throttle body with manual
mixture control. The JPI is quite useful when leaning.
I programmed it for deg F and lean to CHTs of 380.

the oil should be the hottest for the filter to flow and clean at max output
and not block the cooler flow. The output pressure of the scavenge pump
is not that high and needs to keep up the flow with the min pressure needed so
care must be taken to assure the relief valve in the filter can open and not
block the oil cooler relief valve and damage cooler. Cooling the oil and then
forcing it through the filter is not as good of a idea as hot oil flowing through
the filter.

Subject: | Yak 55M Throttle/Prop cables |
Hi guys,
Anybody have any experience with removing/replacing the throttle and
prop cables on a Yak 55M? Mine are binding badly and the aluminum tubes
are fractures at several locations. I can get at the cable brackets in
the cockpit (with some gymnastics) but the cable stop in the hell hole
behind the firewall is essentially out of my reach. Any ideas would be
appreciated. Also, any thoughts about the best choice to replace them
American cables (and tap out the Russian fittings to 10-32), or try to
recreate the Russian ones, or find replacement Russian cables (and if
so, any leads? WLAC doesn't appear to have them...).
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Scott

The rubber bushings in our lower cowling attach brackets are shot. These
are pressed-in hard rubber with a small brass tube center that the attach pin
with a T-tip secures it to the U-shaped bracket on the firewall. Doug has the
screw-in type, but they are slightly larger and meant for later models that
have a threaded housing. Anyone had luck finding or making a workable
substitute?
Thanks, Dave

I had the same problem. Still do, but I used a rubber hose cut very short.
Sorry I can't remember the size. Its ID fit the brass tube center and OD
went into the bracket. Not perfect and it will not last forever, but it got
the job done.

Subject: | Re: ADC Oil Filter |
Don't remember right now what the # is but all you need is the adapter and a bracket.
It is not the Gorilla but a standard with large fittings. Airwolf sells
a kit for the Yak but the hoses and clamps are too large and useless as far
as I am concerned adding extra cost, as I remember you need -10 hoses and fittings
and Airwolf sent -12 with slip on hoses and clamps. There is only 15 psi
on the output. You might well make your own kit up using a different spin on filter
plate also. The Champion filter has the correct bypass setting for what
you need. I originall set all the information to Airwolf as they requested so
it could be passed on. You will need to make your own fittings and the photo's
I included show how I went from US back to Metric using the same hoses and brackets.
The scavenge line from the engine needs to be angled back slightly to
clear the engine mount. In the photo it is hard to see it so before finish welding
I suggest a trial fit with the hose assemble complete. If anyone is truly
interested I can do a complete How To. It seems every one has there own idea
how to do it. I have 140 hours on my install.
