Check the oil pressure regulator for foreign material. Joe ----- Original Message ----- From: Martin Robinson To: yak-list@matronics.com Sent: Sunday, February 03, 2008 3:02 AM Subject: Yak-List: Oil pressure problem + Hi all, Just heard my partner flew the 18T last week and found the oil pressure gguage jumping between 3 and zero. I intend to go and check this next week but any ideas gratefully taken on board. I suspect it's a lead to the guage but certainly don't want to fly it until we have it sorted. On another note, we have an issue with our altimeter. When trying to enter the pressure settings the subscale will sometimes lock at 990/1000/1010 Mb etc and requires a lot of jiggling to turn it through. Is there an easy fix? TIA --

Blitz, The Kmph numbers from the YAK-50 pilots manual are: VNE - 430 VNE - 470 ( if the ASI is label 500 Kmph only) Max level flight 400 Kmph. I cruise at 65% / 700 mmHg seeing 250 kmph with no winds aloft. Depending on ASI calibration along with other things, like flush verse button rivets, age of engine, ect, other 50 drivers will see different #'s. But, they are all going to be in the 240-250 kmph range. The FAA registry show 36 YAK-50's in the US. http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/acftinqSQL.asp?striptxt=YAK50 <http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/acftinqSQL.asp?striptxt=YAK50&mfrtx t=YAKOVLEV&modeltxt=YAK+50&cmndfind.x=7&cmndfind.y=7> &mfrtxt=YAKOVLEV&modeltxt=YAK+50&cmndfind.x=7&cmndfind.y=7 Doc From: owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of ByronMFox@aol.com Sent: Saturday, February 02, 2008 7:02 PM Subject: Yak-List: CJ, Yak 52 & Yak 50 Questions I'm putting together a tri-fold pocket brochure about the RPA as a hand-out at OSH this year. In it I plan photos and brief specs for the aircraft typicall flown by our members. To that end, I'm in search of some information that I can't seem to find by searching the internet. 1. Does anyone have a reasonably accurate number of CJs and Yak 52s in the US and Canada? I did find a census of Yak 50s. There appear to be 29 in the US and none in Canada. Right/wrong? 2. What's the typical cruise speed and Vne for a Yak 50? 3. How many 52TWs & TDs are in the US and Canada? 4. Do the 52TWs uniformly have 400hp M14s? Had the same issue with the oil temp gauge in our CJ. Was a loose fitting cannon plug at the sending unit. Tight on the ground, but would vibrate in flight and caused the needle to swing. A tie strap fixed it until the annual. **************Biggest Grammy Award surprises of all time on AOL Music. (http://music.aol.com/grammys/pictures/never-won-a-grammy?NCID=aolcmp003000000025 48)

Hey guys, just back from Belize and noted your post. In my filter repack kit ($17.50 ea) there is a full set of fresh felt filters, a full set of stainless steel screens, and all the desiccant needed to recharge your filter. There is no need to reinvent the wheel and cut your own filters or screens. I also now have the end plates (one on each end of the filter) in stainless steel. Previously these were made of alu. and were found to be corroding and causing problems down stream as they fell apart. Once replaced, your filter will be totally stainless steel with the exception of the springs which I will have very shortly. If you find that your alu end plates are corroded you might want to consider purchasing a set of stainless end plates $10.00 for the pair. *To assemble the filter:* Starting from the "Air in" end you have first a stainless steel end plate, then a stainless screen, then a felt filter pad, then a stainless steel screen. *NEXT* you add the desiccant, then a screen, then just alternate felt pad, stainless screen, felt pad, etc., until your out the other end. You will finish with a stainless steel screen, then use your second stainless end plate. Put the spring in place on *EACH* end and tighten up the end caps. *NOTE* the seal DOES NOT happen in the threads it happens as the 0 ring seals on the lip of the body so don't worry about sealing the threads. NEXT take your Teflon tape and with your best effort throw the crap as far away from your aircraft as you can!! Don't use it on your air system, if you do your just buying trouble somewhere down the road. Hope all this helps, if you have questions feel free to give me a call @ 509-826-4610. Coming soon---Stainless steel replacement springs for all the air system. From: "Mozam" <sdalton@hughes.net>
Northeast Formation Clinic Hey guys, Many of us in the Northeast dont make it to Sun & Fun every year due to the 600+ mile ride each way. So, this year were having a Spring Clinic of our own. All you guys in the Carolinas, Tennessee, Georgia, etc., COME ON UP! RPA Instructors and Check Pilots will be available for anyone needing FAST training. However, the focus of this clinic will be on developing sound Flight Lead fundamentals. This training will be provided to all current and prospective future Flight Leads. The training will geared toward the Leads, but ALL newbies and wingmen are welcome. Obviously the Leads need someone to lead! The Spring Clinic will be at Easton, MD (KESN) located on the scenic eastern shore of Chesapeake Bay. KESN is NOT in the ADIZ, nor do you have to go through it to get there (unless you start out in the ADIZ). The dates are May 2-4. Thursday afternoon arrivals are encouraged because everything begins Friday morning. KESN has two 100 wide runways and a new control tower (non-FAA) staffed with almost all prior military controllers who love Yaks and 4-ships on initial for the overhead. They will be riding with us and joining us for after hours entertainment, which will include a party Friday night at a great private location on the water. The Airport Manager is excited about having us and has waived all overnight tie down fees (please dont divulge this to any non-RPA plane owners), there is a good restaurant on the airport, and the FBO will provide a discount on all fuel. Jim Meadows has personally inspected and secured a discounted rate ($90) for us at the Comfort Inn only two miles from the airport. It is a clean newer hotel with a Dennys next door. Call ASAP to get the discounted RedStar rate. (410-820-8333). Jim and I will provide a Suburban and an SUV for attendees use, which along with driving our other cars should negate the need for anyone to have to rent a car. If you havent already done so, please let me know if youre coming as soon as you can. I need an estimate of the numbers for planning purposes. And keep your fingers crossed for good weather! -Steve Dalton Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=162238#162238
