Taking delivery of my CJ sometime in march. The exhaust valves have not been adjusted in the last 3 annuals (these are the ones I've seen so far).. 2 cyl's are in the low 70's high 60's. I've never done valve adjustment, where would I get the tools and the "manual"? thanks Mike -------- Mike "Skidmk" Bourget Ottawa, Ontario Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=166774#166774 ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 12:54:26 PM PST US Subject: Yak-List: Prop Paint and Decals. From: "CJcanuck" Hi All! My prop is currently being overhauled and I'm having it stripped and repainted while it's at the shop. As they doesn't stock blue prop paint I was hoping someone might know where I can find some in the correct hue. I'd also appreciate a line on either decals or stencils + paint for the blade markings. Thanks! Mike, I stock the decals for the J9-G1 propeller. Contact me off list. As far as the paint goes, you might try any high end auto paint vendor, many have the ability to match exactly what you need if you have the original color paint sample. The smaller 600c has all the same functions, just a smaller screen, and would also be an excellent buy. What happens is one day the prop stops when trying to start it and all your air bleeds past the stuck valve leaving you to wonder what to do next. A worse case is a bent valve, which sticks, hits the piston on the next upstroke and then ruins your whole day. All you need is a 17mm wrench and socket, along with a big flat tip screw driver and a bent feeler gauge. I use .10" clearance for normal operation and bump up to .014" or more when I'm going to be running the engine at max rpm for any period of time. Be sure and check at least one cylinder (#4 preferably) FOUR times, as each TDC comes around. Reason: there are 4 cam lobes for Exhaust and 4 for Intake. Average your adjustment. Contact Doug Sapp if you don't have a service manual. It is a very simplistic moving map, but has airport data as well, and of course all NAVAIDS, etc. The nice thing about it is that it fits in a ROUND HOLE, just like the ones in your instrument panel right now. However, .... I have to admit the Lowrance units are better, and of course the Garmin 496 units are spectactular\.
