Blitz,
Having lost our pilot pensions at Delta and now having both our union
and Delta attempting to raid our disabled pilot's widows and orphans
fund, I can relate. As far as I'm concerned, the airline is the people
who worked it. If you know of a couple of flight crew who could use my
"Friends & Family" passes to look for work anywhere in the world, I have
two I could make available. I still have those left with Delta last
time I looked.
Fraternally,
Val

Let me start by saying HI, and thanks to all of you for the help reading this sight
has given me in the past, even without posting. From operational questions
to diagnosing a bad coil, this sight and its users are top notch.
Presently I am grounded due to a crack in the lower ruder hinge plate, the one
with the bearing in it that is attached to the vertical stabilizer with 5 bolts
or rivets. I believe the crack developed due to damage during shipping of the
aircraft, so I dont think there is a systematic problem here. I have called
all the sources that I know and have not been able to find a replacement in
the US. If any body has one, or has any ideas where to get one please post.
Cheers,
Joe

Subject: | Flight Suits for Sale |
I have two brand new, never been worn Gibson & Barnes flight suits for sale. They were given to me by my friend's widow and I am selling them for her. I am not sure if they are the Classic, Professional or Military style flight suit at the G&B web site (http://www.gibson-barnes.com/uniform.html), but they retail for at least $200 each. They feel like the 6.5 oz. material but I just can't be sure - they may be the lighter weight 5 oz.
Size: 42T
Color: Royal Blue
Material: Nomex
Style: Long Sleeve, zipper front, 2 zipper breast pockets, 2 zipper thigh pockets,
velcro waist adjustment bands, snapping knife pocket on one leg, pencil
pocket on upper left sleeve.
Please contact me off line if you want to buy them as I am selling them for $250
for both / OBO. You can also buy them for $125 each / OBO. Obviously the
proceeds go to her.

Most of the stuff I have seen involve a trailor instead of putting it a
tank in the bed of your pickup truck! Please let me know if you find
the answer to your questions though, because I have thought about doing
the same thing.
Don't worry about a ground rod. What you need to be sure of is to make
damn sure your tank/truck is grounded to the airplane itself. If you
want to be REALLY careful, have an additional ground wire from the
nozzle where the fuel comes out, to the airframe ground as well.

Subject: Yak-List: Fuel transfer
I know the discussion has gone around about mogas in our round engines,
but I do not recall anyone writing about hauling the fuel to the field.
I have looked at the transfer tanks (50-100 gal) for a pickup bed and
they all say "not for gasoline" They all imply they are for diesel
only. I know the volatility and explosiveness of gas compared to
diesel, but are there tanks approved for hauling gas? Is it really that
dangerous to haul and roll, I mean fill your own? Any suggestions for
pumps? I would think this is the biggest opportunity for an accident,
with gas running through an electric pump. Any recommendations for
grounding? I was planning on grounding the plane and the truck/tank.
Using an electric fence grounding rod after the ground thaws and I can
drive it.
Leaving a tank is not an option at KGRB and avgas here is 5.45 whereas I
can buy premium ethanol free with no road tax for about 3.02 now.

Joe,
If you have tried the usual US culprits, Carl, Jill, Culp, and Coy, then try Richard @ http://www.wlacrussianeng.co.uk. If that does not work try Driagori at Aerostar or Vytus at Termikus.

Subject: | cylinder baffle rubber strips |
I have noticed that the paper-wrapped rubber strips at the top of my cylind
er baffles are... well, slowing turning to cr@p.
So, before I engineer my own not-so-clever solution to replacing them, I th
ought I'd ask here if anybody had some ideas.
The rubber strips are about 1" wide, 1/4" thick and like 6 or 7" long. The
y're usually in a little metal "tray" held in by rivets.
Not only are my strips slowly disintegrating but some of the trays are suff
ering pretty badly, too (becoming detached from the baffles).
I was thinking to remove the trays entirely and cement rubber replacements
right to the top of the baffles.
But I don't know enough about "rubber" to know what to use that will take t
he head, slime and vibration. Or how to attach new strips in a mostly-perm
anent fashion.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Jon
