Guys
There is another way to find a leak. The automotive industry has produced
a die that is added to the oil. Comes in one ounce bottles for about $5
per bottle. I would suggest three bottles. The oil die shows up under
ultraviolet light. Start the engine, let it run for a while, and after
shutdown follow the track to the source with your 60's black light.
Washing the engine first is always nice, but not necessary.

I have a "picture of a picture" from the book Yakovlev Aircraft since 1942
if that will help.

If anyone needs the long shutter axle(pivot) screw for a -52. They seem to
wear on the screw head end and will eventually wear into. I had to have
some made, and have extras. They are made from high quality treated
stainless steel and will last for a long time. They are $17.62 each.
Also, does anyone have the shorter screws at the base of the shutters?
Thanks,
Kregg Victory

Subject: | high oil consumption |
I too have excessive oil consumption with my Yak, at least 2 quarts an hour
during acro. I have done a compression check and looked for the obvious leaks.
The engine is leaking a little and I've tried to isolate the leak/s. Today I
put two bottles oil dye in the tank and ran the engine for a total of 20
minutes at various power settings, as high as 80%. Even with the hangars doors
closed in total darkness I couldn't see any dye with the black light. I read
here recently that someone cured there oil consumption problem after finding a
leaking cylinder base gasket. My base gaskets seem to be fine so I'm still
trying to resolve the excessive consumption. Any other thoughts? Thanks,
Steve

You may want to make sure the oil separator is plugged or loose connections.

I would love to be there, but the rostering God's have dealt me a loosing hand
in May and so I'll be spending 3 fun-filled days in Anchorage on a work trip.
On the plus side, AK is a great place for aircraft watching and parts shopping.
(Where else can you see a DC-6, Beaver on floats and F-22 all in the air at
one time outside of Oshkosh?)
My fingers and toes are crossed for Bandits.. plus a bottle of Scotch here and
there in scheduling just to grease the wheels...;)
Later!
Mike

Subject: | Trim Tab Spindles and various other fasteners |
Hi All!
I'm trying to track down a pair of Trim Tab spindles (Part#HB1-703G), the AN replacement
from Aircraft Spruce didn't quite do the trick. I'd also like to replace
all the screws with stainless as the ones I'm currently 'blessed' with are
all in pretty bad shape. Last, I'm also missing one of the brass screws on
the cover for the magnetic heading sensor.
Any help sourcing these bits would be greatly appreciated.
Mike
