Subject: | Re: Aging Aircraft |
Mine recently came out of the 600hr inspection / overhaul as per approved UK CAA
/ Yak design Bureau process.
(Thanks again Richard!!!)
So yes complete disassembly, xray/check and rebuild. It cost me an arm and a leg
but I am glad I did it. We found cracks in the engine mount which was repaired,
some engine mount bolts had worn and had to be replaced. No way you would
have found that in normal inspection, only a teardown, xray and miking the
bolts revealed the issues. When or if these would have failed is hard to say.
The list of parts that were xrayed or checked via other means was lengthly.
Lots of new parts. All lifed items replaced at the same time (e.g. hoses).
Lots of work spent on little repairs and "mini overhauls" like rebuilding actuators
- that added up.
This all on a 1994 airframe bought new from factory, always hangared, always on
top of normal maintenance by experienced Russian engineer as per normal category
aircraft.
As I said, I am glad I did it.

I think that few Western owners of Yaks would want to follow the official
maintenance instructions for Yak aircraft.
For the 52 this involves a TOTAL disassembly and rebuild as a new aircraft
every 600 hours.
Of course their use was very arduous in a way that very few,if any,are used
in the West.

By way of explation, the 600 hour inspection procedure refered to by Jorgen
is a compromise we managed to reach with Yakolev in Moscow and the UK
CAA,who were expecting all UK 52's to go through the total Russian 600 hour
rebuild.
We were able to persuade Yakovlev that Western use was much less arduous
than Russian DOSAAF use and we now have a very detailed 600 hour/15 year
inspection which involves removal of wings;tail;engine etc. and NDT/X-Ray
inspection of everything;mandatory change of various bolts, and then
reassembly.
In the UK,at a labour rate of about $70 per hour it costs about $6000 on top
of an annual/100 hour check.
Still cheaper than a total rebuild!!

Subject: | For Sale - Skyforce Skymap IIIC - NEW - Latest Database |
Dear Listers,
I am selling my new-in-box Skyforce Skymap IIIC full color GPS moving map with
Topo. The database and firmware were just upgraded 05/2008. Includes a Panel
Mounting bracket, GPS Antenna, cigarette lighter adapter, carrying case, and
all manuals. Brand new, never used. No scratches. The pictures below are of
the actual unit. The LCD color display on the IIIC is extremely nice and very
bright. Gives altitude readout. RS232 output.
I have over $2500 invested in this complete system. I will sell it for $2200 plus
shipping to anywhere in the world. I can accept Visa/MC. First come, first
served.
Please email me off list at dralle@matronics.com if you are interested.

We are in the process of developing complete wiring harnesses for the
CJ. I suspect it will be the end of the summer before we are ready
to assemble wiring harnesses for outside customers. Our first
harness (complete with diagrams) is in a plane to be delivered
shortly, the 2nd and 3rd are going in aircraft to be completed this
summer. We are planning to have the following harnesses available
for cockpit upgrades:
1) Engine compartment with engine monitoring (2 harnesses)
2) Wings
3) Fuselage (to run modern avionics in front and original in rear)
I will keep you updated on the progress.
As for the pedal mod, we have had some delays in getting the CAD
program re-written for our final modification as a result of 30 hours
of flight testing, but expect that today. I'm hoping to bring a half
dozen sets to All Red Star next week.
Cheers,
Barry

John,
Despite many arguments to the contrary, I'm not a fruit......
Your idea was not rejected. Not having the resources is different
from saying your idea was bad, it was a matter of implementation, and
still is. I think it's a terrific idea and as soon as someone has
the time to dedicated to figuring out how to construct AND manage the
system in a meaningful manner, we'll all be better for it.

Barry
