Indeed, we have an XCOM too in a Yak 52, but it's our second one. Our first
XCOM, brandnew, did not work properly. It took months before it came back
from the factory (probably a firmware problem, not electronics).
Meanwhile we ordered another one that worked perfectly. So we have a spare
now. The reason why we bought it in the first place, is for the built-in
intercom possibility. It is definitely a good choice.

A very functional radio that will fit well in the original VHF radio control
panel slot (with an adapter plate of course) is the XCom round VHF radio.
It is a 2 1/4" round (57mm) digital flip-flop radio with the capability to
monitor the standby frequency and with a built in VOX key intercom should
you wish to use the capability. Very cost effective.
http://www.xcom760.com/ You will need a voltage converter (28V to 14V) for
this and most other small, compact VHF radios.

I just caught up with the posting about Liutauras Dzuisas and wanted to outline
another instance of fraud he committed against myself. It seems he is bringing
a lot of other people down with him. I really wish Id publicized Mr Dzuizas's
actions long before he created trouble for so many more people.
Im a disabled pilot and I signed contracts with Mr Dziuzas and his Firm UAB Anabaras
algirio 88-604 LT-09303 Vilnius Lithuania six years for the purchase
of two Aircraft a YAK52 and a YAK55. Needless to say they never arrived. I
paid a deposit of 50% on each at the time so its a sizable amount. At the time
a manager Antanas Simuitsas was working with him, I'm not sure if they separated
amicably. I contacted him directly without middlemen involved so hes obviously
the suspect party. Id be interested in hearing of the name of the lawyers
representing parties in Lithuania as Id like to contact the myself.
I briefly contacted a few but didnt follow through after finding little success
in a firm willing to pursue the matter. lus wishful thinking on y part that
Mr Dzuizas would trade out of his problems. Obviously I see now hes been ripping
of a number of people. How any havent come forward.
Any way at least I hope people are forewarned about dealing with him.
Yours Sincerely
Allan V

Not entirely true,, still in use in many aircraft, including military...
Just more controlled as to "where and how it is used!" They didn't pull it
all out! The B1-B is still about 90% Kapton. Impossible to pull it all out!
I have a lot of experience working with Kapton wiring... Even been to the
Kapton wire maintenance school in the military.. It's popularity came from
increased weight savings,, it can carry same current with wire nearly half
the size. Just don't let it chafe anything and it's fine.. but yes it can
burn like a sparkler if "set off" usually from chafing... If bundled
tightly, the sparkler can spread... usually snuffed at the next clamp in the
wire run... It's the paint-type coating that flashes.
I still think it is good wire for certain applications.. but don't run it
through a fuel tank..
FWIW.. my 2 cents..

I wonder......
How many people on this list know anything about Kapton wiring?
Is anyone aware of the fact that we've pulled it out of every military
aircraft that used it? At significant expense?
Also aware that we left it in the airliners?
Anyone here besides me that has direct experience with it blowing up right
in their faces?
Not to take anything away from the FAA's reputation or intent... Which I
have experienced as well... But if you are not aware of the issues with
Kapton wiring, it might be worth your time to educate yourself. You also
might want to make damn sure you never use it to rewire your own aircraft.

FAA agent says - "I'm not happy, until you're not happy."
Besides the maint issues, it took me 4 months to transfer the paprework
(OL's, airworthiness etc) when I bought the 55,

electrical wiring and potential onboard fires from same, I will bring copies

The FAA has been clear on the hard date to comply with Conformity
Inspections. Adel clamps were changed, wiring practices required removal
and replacement of some wire runs and some electrical controlled devices
were removed and then replaced with "improved"
devices. Our entire fleet was done within the time alloted. The
consequence by delaying compliance was a financial one by each carrier.
Cannot comment on American's decision but the behind the scenes efforts to
outsource as much maintenance to non company mechanics is understandable in
an effort to protect bonuses during such times of high fuel costs.
I can't help those of you who believe that missing Navy missile brought
down TWA #800. The FBI and FAA found it would be easier to blame it on
"Aging Wiring". A lot of the ideas in the CDROM will some day trickle down
to Experimental Built aircraft. The newer certificated, production units are
already meeting the newest standards. I am just waiting for the EAA to join
the fray.
Allan McArter (FAA administrator) told me in 1987 that the two things the
FAA tries to protect is their retirement pension and the protective rights
of unsuspecting citizens on the ground. Those who chose to fly have already
made a decision on their safety. His was an interesting perspective since
Congress got into the focus of what is being done in aviation.

I have heard some chatter from Oshkosh about the FAA conducting ramp checks
on Experimentals during Oshkosh. While they have restrained themselves from
doing this during the event in the past , times have changed. Just look how
they have been "protecting" the flying public lately by measuring the cable
clamp and bundle stitches on airliners.
Your paperwork should be ready pass inspection:
aircraft/pilot/parachute.
