I've heard that some folks have put in an electric trim and I'm interested in any info that I could get re: what was used and the method to install. The homebuilt community uses MAC trim servos' but in looking at them it seems that their travel is limited to approx 1.2 inches full throw. Before I go out to buy servo's I would really like to hear from anyone (everyone ) that has done this . Thanks in advance , Walt Murphy CJ-6A Reno, NV waltmurphy@chartet.net ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 08:09:10 PM PST US Subject: Yak-List: Re: Exhaust spanner tool From: "Bill Tally" It looks like you need an exhaust spanner, and they can be hard to find. If you can get the Russian tool or a copy from Jill, I would recommend it. In a pinch, you can order a 2 1/2 in. Armstrong pin spanner, #34-219 (McMaster-Carr no. 5475A17), but you will need to bore out the existing 9/32" pin and replace it with a 5/32" oil-hardening tool steel pin. Fortunately, the pin in mine was not too hard and drilled out easily. For maximum strength, I chose to silver-solder the new pin in place. However, the high heat from silver soldering will anneal the steel, so it must be hardened and tempered to keep in from bending in use. While the pin was still red hot from silver soldering, I quenched it in oil and then tempered it to a medium blue color. It has worked fine. If you would rather skip the heat treating, it might work to soft-solder the pin; the low heat involved would not be enough to ruin the temper, although the strength of the joint would be much lower.
