George,
Have you tried replacing the broken nutplates with metric rivnuts?
Drill out the center of the broken nut plate and replace with a metric
rivnut. They are readily available.
http://mdmetric.com/prod/rivetnuttool/rivetnuttool.htm You'll need a
rivnut tool of course. But they are not that expensive. Look down the
page on the link I sent and you will see the prices for just metric
rivnuts.

Subject: Yak-List: Yak-55M Airframe Hardware
OK all you Yakers...anybody out there planning a trip through
Ismailovsky Park just north of Moscow anytime soon ??
I=92m trying to find floating nutplates that are used to attach
Fairings covering the ~ 3inch gap between the Wing Butt and the
Fuselage. There are about 6 or 8 on top and the same underneath the
Wing. These nutplates have two lugs and look almost identical to the
NAS686 except they are metric.
Best I can tell the rivet (lug) spacing is 16mm and the fasteners are
4mm.
My Yak-55M has two that are missing the floating part, and two more
that are stripped out and should be replaced.
I=92ve tried every place in the US I can think of and no one on this
side of the Pond carries metric floating nutplates.
Any chance anybody knows where I can find these nutplates ??
The Metric Screw and Tool and other metric specialty houses say they
only carry metric panel screws...no nutplates.
Also, the lower pindle bolt on the rudder uses a castellated shear nut
keyed with a cotter pin (split pin) to hold on the rudder, and needs
replacement. It looks like an AN320; however, it is metric. It appears
to be a 6 or 7 mm, but with fine threads. My metric thread gage has
nothing to match it...must be some specialized metric nut that was used
by the Russians...any notion about what it could be and where to get
them ?
Any help would be appreciated..this is all thats is holding me on the
ground with this airplane.

Hi George,
For the small metric castellated nut, check a fine thread US nut--I have
discovered that there are a number of odd-sized (like 5.5 mm) nuts and
screws on the airplane that don't have standard metric threads, which
when you place the nearest sized US-standard on they fit perfectly. It's
weird, but I think some of these are reversed engineered from US standard...
For my money I'd just replace the wing-fairing nut plates with US, and
put in US screws. My fairings are about half-and-half right now (I use
flat-headed US to differentiate from the Russian pan-heads) and it works
fine. A bit of gymnastics to put them in place initially, but worth it
down the road.

George,
I have some 4mm and 5mm floating nut plates which I bought in Russia to
restore my Yak 18 (CJ5). Do you have a photo of the plate which you need?
Also the "jesus" nut on the bottom attach point of the rudder on the CJ6
sounds like what you have described. I have them in stock. do you have a
CJ6 nearby to check it?
Best from here,

I use the reiff Hotstrip oil sump heater.
http://www.reiffpreheat.com/product.htm#HotStrip
It is two metal strips and a thermostat you glue to the sump with JB weld.
Easy to install, works great. On a 30 degree morning with the pre heat
strips running over night and the cowl covered with a blanket the engine is
at 40 degrees 15 seconds after starting and ready to taxi in 2-3 minutes.
Your results may vary.
After using it last winter I think it would be stupid not to have something
to pre heat the engine oil and engine. I always hated hearing that gearbox
whine for a minute until the oil got there. Now with the pre heater there is
almost no whining (2-3 secs typical)
Good luck.

Greetings, I am fairly new to the Yak world. I'm having an issue with prop rpm.
I cannot achieve less then about 80% inflight. Prop checks fine on the ground
down to 40ish%. I have the 2 blade V530 prop. Swapped governors and still seeing
the same issue. Takeoff rpm is perfect at 100% at the stops. Any ideas? Blade
angels look to be right around 14.5 degrees and counterweights at around
25 degrees. I saw some old threads about this, but no answers. Thanks in advance
for the help.

Can you give more details? Are you keeping the throttle at 100% when
you try to achieve less than 80% on the engine? Where is the manifold
pressure? Have you reduced the manifold pressure to about 70 mb and see
what it does then?
Have you adjust the low stop on the gov?
I am not an expert on this subject, but am just curious about the above
questions. Dennis or Doug can give you better ideas.

Are certain that the tact generator is functioning properly? The 40ish is
too low, should come back to some 52-53%.

Don't recall you asking about the DZUS fasteners, I do have them in stock.
They come in 3 or 4 different sizes, let me know which part numbers you
need. I use US collars and springs.

I am sure the tach gen is working fine, we checked it out. It is obvious, through
noise and feeling, that the prop isn't coming back like it should be. I have
also tried bringing the throttle back and no change is noted till below 400mb.
As far as the low pitch stop on the gov goes, there is plenty of travel left
on the prop lever and correspondingly on the front of the governor before it
hits the stops, it is just that nothing is happening from midway through the
prop lever/prop governor movement all the way back to the stops, rpm stays at
80%. Weird part is that everything works as it should on the ground run up, I
see 100% and I can bring the prop rpm back as needed. I just can't do it in flight.

Hi ,
I had a similar problem with a CJ . I found that the sleeve that contained
the control cable for the prop governor was not secure and would allow the
tube to slip when I tried to reduce the RPM.

Have you pulled the cylinder out of the prop hub and moved the blades to
assure that they are moving freely? Each blade should move with ease once
the cylinder is out. If not the prop should be dissembled, checked and
lubricated if no damage is found.
