Pete-It does seem to be a problem with older planes that are in the open; near the sea,and also some types of industry. But,I've only heard of 3/4 cases alltogether. I'd be interested in more information. We recently trashed a 1983 build 52 because of it. Is there an issue with the quality of metal used? -------- Pete M G-CBRL 83-3708 Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p 2809#202809 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by the http://www.invictawiz.com MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----

Richard, The aircraft was originally made in 1983 but rebuilt in Lithuania 1994. Total time on airframe was around 1700 hours and it lived outside in Southern England all its western life. During those hours it had been used for aerobatic competitions and more later a few flying displays as well as chugging around in a more civilised manner. During the annual check 'bad' corrosion was found in the left wing and to a lesser extent in the right. We were advised that we needed 2 new lower wing spars. As the machine was looking a bit shabby and in need of a re-paint the cost of the re-spar was expected to be close to its market value. So the group decided to bin it for what we could get. It is now in Germany with another 52 and we are told its going to be repaired. At the time I believe that there was another 52 suffering the same problem, although a slightly later production year. This could well be the other one that went to Germany (in fact I am fairly certain) -------- Pete M G-CBRL 83-3708 Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p 2908#202908

Hi Barry, Do you have that reference? I do not see that in the memorandum Dennis attached to his post. Hangar clean out day continues: I've put the following items up for sale on eBay... All these items are essentially new units (zero time). They were purchased as I was building my plane and now I don't need. The Stratus EA-81 and FWF Kit has no reserve - needless to say, I'll be sleeping on the couch tonight!
