Dennis Savarese" Subject: Yak-List: Yaks in video segment on the news On Friday, October 10, the National Museum for the Tuskegee airman was officially dedicated and opened in Tuskegee, Alabama. Four of us decided we would do a formation fly-by, including a missing man formation, to honor all of the Tuskegee airmen. It was spontaneous and based on how the crowd reacted after we landed, it was much appreciated. We were humbled and very proud to be a part of this national, historic event. The missing man "pull" was a short clip in a news video. http://www.wsfa.com/global/Story.asp?s=9156066. On the right side of the page is a video screen. Below the video screen are videos of the event. The 4th video (left to right), which has a T6 in the photo is the one with the missing man formation clip. It is titled "Tuskegee Airmen Museum Holds Its Grand Opening". Someone had too! The question is...why did the USAF not support this with a flight of fighters? An F-16 unit in the state and F-15's and -22's not too terribly far away. The 100th FS, previously the 160th FS, supported the dedication with a 4 ship of F-16s. They arrived at precisely the ending of the playing of the National Anthem with the posting of Colors! Those guys are from my squadron. So, the Alabama ANG did support the dedication. As a side note, the ground FAC that controlled our Red Star (Red Air Squadron) Diamond fly-by and subsequent Missing Man formations was from the 100th FS based at Dannelly Field in Montgomery, Alabama. "Fatty" was the ground FAC, also a Viper Driver, and is the squadron Scheduler. He was the controlled that timed the ending of the National Anthem with the arrival of the Vipers overhead on ending note! The Al ANG was well represented by our Vipers and our personnel on the ground. Even their old flight doc was in on the action being the 50 driver flying as #3 in the missing man formation. Alabama ANG was well represented at the dedication of the "Tuskegee Airman National Historic Site".
