As of the 13th, the Fund Raiser is currently about 30% behind last year in terms of the number of Contributions. Yet, oddly the number of messages posted per day is up by 10 to 20% on the average. It costs real money to run these Lists and they are supported 100% though your Contributions during the Fund Raiser. Won't you please take a minute right now to make your Contribution to keep these Lists up and running? Contribution Page: http://www.matronics.com/contribution Thank you for your support! In a message dated 11/14/2008 6:25:04 A.M. Eastern Standard Time, dhanshew@cinci.rr.com writes: I guess if you have the needed radio's for the flight check, you could do it. But because of the almost neutral stability of the 52, you'd be spending a whole lot of time just flying the airplane. I believe you'd find the work load pretty high. Years ago I got a instrument rating in a helicopter ( a 206A without SAS). It was not fun! The examiner had to hold and flip charts for me. With every frequency change I had to make on the radios, was followed by having to recover from an unusual attitude. The B-24 is much the same. One pilot is doing nothing but flying while the other does all the radios, com. chart flipping and reading. During instrument flight a pilot is not only concern with keeping the airplane upright, but managing the flight. Reading the charts, approach plates, setting up radios, dealing with ATC, etc. The stability of the aircraft has a significant effect on the work load. I just don't think the 52 was one - built for that, and 2 - would make a good trainer. Good luck on your endeavor! I am obviously the only one on this list who is not happy with Doug Sapp. I have my issues with Doug regarding sending me the wrong parts, inferior parts what break in a couple of hours on me, no refund when sent some parts back and sending me insulting emails claiming everything is my fault (BTW, I kept all the correspondence and invoices) and I am very glad that I haven't bought anything real expensive from Doug. Since last year I am buying from Chinese parts dealers and I am very happy with what I see. Their parts are all brand-new, shipping time is within 2 weeks and on top of it I pay less. I can only speak for myself but I give those guys from China a chance, how do we know if nobody starts trying it ? Just a thought. cheers Elmar

Elmar, My parts are guarenteed, if you don't like them, you don't own them. PERIOD. The problem with you is that when I told you that all my parts bear a witness mark to make sure that no mix up occures, you took offense. And by the way you never did send the part back did you?? I have to wonder if why not, you know my guarentee, but you suddenly went silent when you discovered I could tell rather the part was your old broken one or my part which you claimed was defective. The offer still stands Elmar, send the part back (my part) and I will cheerfully refund your money. I really don't know how I can be more fair. A saint, no never claimed to be, but I do price myself on being fair and honest. But it seems your mileage does vary, and I'm truly sorry for that. Bill, I disagree, this is good healthy interchange which is good for the community at large. Although I would agree that it should not go on and on, after the initial post it should be taken off list. The list is a tool to keep the community abreast of many items, scoundrels being in Lithuania or here at home in the US are no different, we all need to stay informed. If no one says anything then we run the chance of having a out of control situation as we have now in Lithuania. Elmar has a right to voice his opinion. If he feels cheated he should have a venue to express himself, its up to the rest of the readers to be informed and make their own decision. Sir: Anyone on this list (or anywhere else) that has ever dealt with Mr. Sapp will testify loud and long about what a wonderful resource he is to this community. He is all of that, but he is also a great guy who has repeatedly gone WAY out on a limb to help out his customers. He took a flap off his own CJ-6 and sent it to me when I banged mine up. I am certain that this is only one of many stories that can be told about his incredible customer service. It appears from your post that you are not a native speaker of English. Perhaps this has somehow lead you to misinterpret some portion of your correspondence with him. Doug has been here for us for years and years. He is a gentleman and a professional. Many others have come and gone. Doug has my business preferentially. He has never done anything to make me consider anything else and has repeatedly acted in a manner which will secure that claim. I don't know anything about the specifics of your business dealings with Doug, but I do know Doug as a resource person who has become a friend. You seem to recognize that many of us feel the same way. Maybe you should ask yourself why that is and reconsider your situation. In any case, you will make no headway on this list by slandering Mr. Sapp. John Zecherle, MD In a message dated 11/14/2008 7:17:17 A.M. From: "Bitterlich, Mark G CIV Det Cherry Point, MALS-14 64E" <mark.bitterlich@navy.mil>
Uhuh.... Well, I have some personal experience with purchasing aircraft parts directly from Russia. I also have experience purchasing Russian made parts from American middle men (and women). There is simply no comparison. When the person you are dealing with is in another country, it is very hard to hold that person 100% accountable. Of course that is true of anyone anywhere, but Omak is right down the way from Whidbey Island, which I go to regularly. I like the idea of being able to knock on the door of the person I do business with. What I learned from dealing directly with Russian agents is: "When you both come to an agreement on the price, that is actually the START of the negotiation and not the end of it". I'll never do it again. Mark Bitterlich -----Original Message----- From: owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of doug sapp Sent: Thursday, November 13, 2008 3:35 PM Subject: Re: Yak-List: Hot offer parts for CJ-6 aircraft Mark, A long time ago some one sent me a photo of a crotchety old codger, under it it said: I do not know you I do not know your reputation I do not know your company I do not know your product I do not know your prices or your policies Tell me again why I should buy your product? But all the above aside, the real question is not about the difference between info and advertising, but how you can control it. The answer is that you cannot control it. The yak list is a open list, and that is a good thing. But if you think about it from your side of the fence, the buyers side, it is in a way good for the community because it keeps all of us resellers honest. If we inflate our prices past the point to where it is attractive for you or anyone else to take the chance and send money to a total stranger in a foreign country, then we (the resellers) loose. In other words this type of a post helps keeps prices in line. I have checked the prices these people offer FOB China, most all exceed the prices I charge for the same part FOB Omak. The difference is because they are middle men (broker types), and I buy from the source, and I buy in volume. Hope this answers your question. Since last year I am buying from Chinese parts dealers and I am very happy with what I see. Their parts are all brand-new, shipping time is within 2 weeks and on top of it I pay less. Subject: Removing Paint Residue
From: "Dennis Von Ruden" <dvonruden@generalequip.com>
During the course of restoring my CJ, I stripped and removed the original Chinese paint. Gear wells and other appropriate areas were repainted before final assembly. Now I'm planning to have the aircraft repainted in the spring of 2009. Does anyone have a really fast and good method to remove the last bit of paint that is remaining around the circumference of some of the rivet heads? I plan to do as much of the prep work as possible before dropping it off to a paint shop. Sorry Guys that I've caused you so much grieve with my posting, my apologies. All I want is to keep my CJ-6 in a flyable and most possible safe condition, so I guess I have the right to be not happy with certain parts and want to give some other vendors besides Doug a chance as well. But what really disappoints me is that some of you are willing (and did already) to hold justice over a man without knowing any of the facts, shame on you. Yes, English is my third language and I am a foreigner so some of you are absolutely right, there is no place on this list for a guy like me. Case closed. Elmar

Hi,, looking through my parts manual for the following: I want to replace all the "handle knobs" ie. fuel shut off knob, gear knob, mixture knob, carb air knob, Prop knob, throttle knobs etc. Mine are really tired and faded, I can't find part numbers for these, they appear at the back with the consoles.. but no parts are listed (other than the complete assemble lever and all) Has anyone changed these, (I think of seen some nice new ones in pictures of others ships) and if so, do you have part numbers? thanks Skid -------- Mike "Skidmk" Bourget Ottawa, Ontario Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=214282#214282

Sooo, Inquiring Minds want to know about Maintenance eh? Good! Go to the RPA website, find the Online store, go to Manuals and locate the different packages of tech articles that I have written just for inquiring minds. It will cost you a few bucks of which I receive no payment other than a neat hat, shirts and stuff that Blitz bribes me with from time to time. Never mind that I need to update some of the articles but I'll get around to-it when I feel the urge. Craig Payne cpayne@joimail.com

Elmar, Don't be so quick to quit the 'list. The world changes, and so does the CJ world. I have made some good buys from unknowns over the 13 years I have operated these aircraft , AND I have been shafted by a few dealers as well. Doug Sapp is a constant. Always good to his word and fair with his prices. You have to had been around a while to appreciate the "bad old days" when CJ and Yak dealers were as plentiful as Old-time Carnival Barkers (dictionary needed here?). Doug has brought stability to the business of keeping us flying. As far as comments on the 'list go, don't pay too much attention. "Players" on the 'list come and go, sometimes disappearing and then re-emerging years later. I haven't seen much new lately but you never know so I stay tuned via the Digest version. My interest is in any new maintenance problems and the latest and greatest mods. I know what the Yak-50/52 can and can't do, and I also know what the stock CJ can and can't do. I don't need to read those discussions based on opinions. What ONLY I know is what MY aircraft can do. This is why I'd like to see an all-comers "shoot-out" at one of our events. Me want to kick some Big Butt! Craig Payne cpayne@joimail.com

Skidmk, Do you have any T-6 guys around? They can show you how to do the valve adjustments. There are some gocha's with adjusting the valves. Getting a new set of valve cover gaskets will save you from an oil bath. A good rubber mallet helps to when reseating the valve covers. Some of those tricks are not found in the YAK or CJ TO manual. Having someone around with round motor experience will help allot. Even if it is Wright Pat and not a Housia or M-14. You could always hire Dennis to come up and do a maintenance class. You'll learn a lot about your aircraft. Honestly, I can show you how to do the valve adjustments much as Dennis showed me how to do better than I can describe the process on the web. Seeing it is worth a thousand words.
