Could not sleep, so started surfing the web for info on what an AWAS might
cost for our airpark. I came up on this unrelated article which proved
somewhat interesting when you can't sleep. It's a lawyer to lawyer brief on how
to
approach a tort case against ATC.

Gang,
I have been dealing with Doug for nearly 10 years and in the course of
putting together over a half dozen aircraft I have bought my fair share of
parts from him. Never, in my dozens and dozens of orders, big or small,
have I ever received an inferior part. Why? Because Doug knows aircraft
parts (owned a salvage business for a long time) and is an honest man.
Now, take a look at the email address used by our friend Elmer. It is the
same server (Canadian) as Andrew Zheng and Jack Wong....both "other
vendors" of CJ parts. Elmer is asking to give other CJ vendors a "chance"
and does so by disparaging Doug on the list. Certainly does beg the
question... And when Elmer signs off because he doesn't like the
response, it smacks of disingenuousness to begin with.
Nice try Elmer...
Regards,
Barry

Guys/ Elmar
I do thank every one of you for your support, I do appreciate it, but I do
agree that this should stop, you are correct Mark this is not the right
stuff for the list.
My initial post was never meant to garner a "show of hands", but rather to
answer Elmar's charges, it should have ended there but it did not. About
Elmar:
he is not a bad guy, if he is guilty of anything, maybe it's just not
understanding how things work. I have no hard feelings, I do however feel
that the loss of
ANY CJ or Yak driver from the list is not a good thing. The community as a
whole suffers when we exclude anyone, everyone should be made to feel
welcome
no matter who they like, don't like, or where they shop for parts, those
who wish to buy from other vendors should do so. This "all inclusive" issue
is near and dear to me,
I have spoken out about it previously, but that's off the subject and fodder
for another day.
Elmar, if you have not yet pulled the plug on the list, and are reading
this I would welcome your call or email (off list), let's try to put this
behind us. I personally
do not want to run into you at a fly-in and not feel good about shaking your
hand or buying you a beer after the flying day is done.
Always Yakin,
Doug

Mark,
I do speak for myself. I agree that this isn't the place. Which is why I
said what I did, "Contact him off line"
But what part of "Welcome to the list, and you and Doug should work this
out" bothers you?
Holding a grudge are we? Life is way to short for that. There is way to much
gas to burn in my airplane.
"Too many guys to hang with"
Mark, I have imported 37 airplanes. I have been screwed by more people than
I choose to remember. I've lost $185,000 on one deal. Sent the money to them
for 4 airplanes, money and airplanes disappeared. This July when I had my
heart attack in Amsterdam, (On an airline trip) the ones that ran off with
my money actually called the hospital to check on me, one of the wives came
there from Praque to stay with my wife. Shit happens. The sun will still
rise, hopefully we will all be vertical, and I have enough air for one more
engine start.
Time to forgive and move on. (I didn't say forget, always take care of
business) Especially if it didn't concern anyone but Doug. Yet.
That's the last of it from this end.

Well Bill, speak for yourself please.
Here is a summation:
Elmar makes accusations against Doug of poor business practices. I.E.
Selling poor quality parts, not replacing defective merchandise and just
being unethical at heart.
Doug does not get angry, but politely denies these accusations and offers to
be reaonsable with any complaint Elmar has, and points out some other
interesting facts.
A number of people who have had dozens of productive transactions with Doug
state their support for the man. Not ONE OTHER PERSON states any complaint
about Doug or his business ethics.
Elmar then says "shame on us" for showing support for Doug and not him,
"without knowing all the facts" does not address anything Doug has said or
offered, does not offer any more facts and basically slams anyone who
supports Doug regardless of their factual and personal experiences.
There may indeed be a place for anyone and everyone on this list, but there
really is no room for that kind of behavior.
Every person who hangs out here has seen these kinds of personal accusations
made in public before and they are NEVER productive. N E V E R
Elmar came here hoping that he could get enough people to listen to him and
gang up on Doug, or cost him business. He was unsuccessful. Now he feels
slighted and says "shame on all of you" and says there is no place here for
him. Whatever.
So OK. Maybe Doug does not mind stuff like this. You may not mind it. I
do. Take this whole subject off the list PLEASE and do not bring it back
or *I* will be the person calling Matt and complaining.
There is no place on the YAK LIST for unproven personal accusations against
any of us, let alone a professional who's income relies on his reputation.
Sorry for being so politically incorrect.

Hi,,
looking through my parts manual for the following:
I want to replace all the "handle knobs" ie. fuel shut off knob, gear knob,
mixture knob, carb air knob, Prop knob, throttle knobs etc.
Mine are really tired and faded, I can't find part numbers for these, they
appear at the back with the consoles.. but no parts are listed (other than
the complete assemble lever and all)
Has anyone changed these, (I think of seen some nice new ones in pictures of
others ships) and if so, do you have part numbers?
thanks

Tom,
We talked about this and were wondering if the plastic handles would stand
up under the heat of baking during the powder coating process.
And Skid, I checked and the only way the levers are available is as an
assembly, can't buy just the knobs. I do have most in stock.

Just had some powder coating done for my project. One of the items I made had
nylon insert anchor nuts installed. They refused to process for that reason.
Replaced with all metal nuts, no more problem.
Mike; The control quadrant knobs usually come up very nicely after a thorough
cleaning and polish. Give it a try.
Cheers;

Pappy,
It sounds like an instrument check in the back seat of an A-4,
except at less than half the airspeed, a third less room, oily salt
encrusted Nomex gloves, crummy lighting, doing point to points on a
TACAN that liked to do 40 degree lockoffs, an air conditioner spitting
snowballs on a humid South Texas day, and an O2 mask and hose in the
way! Ah... the good old days. Makes me homesick for a Scooter! : )

I guess if you have the needed radio's for the flight check, you could
do it. But because of the almost neutral stability of the 52, you'd be
spending a whole lot of time just flying the airplane. I believe you'd
find the work load pretty high. Years ago I got a instrument rating in
a helicopter ( a 206A without SAS). It was not fun! The examiner had
to hold and flip charts for me. With every frequency change I had to
make on the radios, was followed by having to recover from an unusual
attitude. The B-24 is much the same. One pilot is doing nothing but
flying while the other does all the radios, com. chart flipping and
reading.
During instrument flight a pilot is not only concern with keeping the
airplane upright, but managing the flight. Reading the charts, approach
plates, setting up radios, dealing with ATC, etc. The stability of the
aircraft has a significant effect on the work load. I just don't think
the 52 was one - built for that, and 2 - would make a good trainer.
Good luck on your endeavor!
