Craig:
Go ahead and try to rub it in....After 10 year in that God-forsaken state, I am
happy to be in North Carolina. Twenty hurricanes, $80K in damage during Wilma,
living life packing hurricane supplies, starting up the generator for when
the wind blew, living around pushy, rude people, sweating my butt off at 10 pm
in the summer when the temp was 85 and the humidity was 90%, etc, etc....I'll
pass.
Let's see Saturday, it was 32 in bright sunshine at 8 am. Went up to mid 50s by
noon. Was flying CAP 182. Climb in the cold air was about 1200 fpm and had
nearly 60 miles of vis. High temps in the 50s to 70s all week here. Haven't
thought about hurricanes nor had to deal with rude folks. No billboards along
the interstates, trees outnumber houses, should I go on.
I have to admit, the weather in Florida between November and April was great.
However, waiting 1-2 hours to get in a restaurant because all the snowbirds, made
that season not as much fun either.
I'll take NC any day of the year.
Merry Christmas!!
Craig

Hi Forrest;
Are you looking for external marking decals or cockpit placards?
If the latter I make a complete set for both cockpits.

That looks real nice. Welcome to the BMA family. I am putting a BMA Sport in
my CJ. We should have the panel in the plane shortly and we'll post a picture.

Mike:
If you want to monitor all 9 cylinders, you are limited to which system you use.
I installed the Blue Mountain Sport EFIS with their engine pod that allows
for monitoring all 9 cylinders as well as rpm, MP, oil temps, fuel flow (so it
is coupled with the GPS in the unit for fuel burn, range, etc), and amps.
Otherwise, JPI's EDM 700-9c is another way to get 9 cyl engine monitoring and fuel
flow data (for about $4K).
Craig
PS - We'll post pics of the panel once installed in the plane (it is being bench
tested this week). It will be flying in January and we should have more info
then. Barry Hancock with Worldwide Warbirds is doing all of the installation
work.

Doug and Mike:? I purchased a set of the Chinese Jacks back in 1995 when I bought
my CJ, it was one of the best investments I've made?in regards to the airplane.
When the machine is up on all 4 jacks it is solid as a rock, you can crawl
all over it, and it never wiggles.. Also you can leave it there for long as
need be, and never worry about it leaking down or tipping off the jacks, ( Unless
You live in California, then an Earthquake might bounce it off !).?

Mike,
A full set of jacks consist of 4 jacks.? A "headed" jack which goes under the engine,
2 "stub wing" jacks and a tail support jack. Normal price for a full set
of 4 stock Chinese jacks is about $1K, bought seperatly about 250 to 300 each.?
All have rollers on them so they move easily in the shop.? They are screw
type, not hyd, so they have no leak down problems if left overnight.? All have
the proper fittings, off set to clear the gear doors on the stub wing jacks,
cly support fittings on the engine jack, and a skid fitting on the tail support
jack.? Making your own is possible but if you use hyd jacks and feel that you
will ever have to leave the aircraft on jacks for a long period of time you
should make?safety locks to prevent any leaking down as sometimes happens with
hyd jacks.? Jacking the aircraft without proper support can be very expensive.?
I have seen one aircraft laying on the shop floor with the jacks sticking up
through the wings-- so it can happen.? A tail weigh
t or tie dwn ring in the floor?can be used instead of the engine and tail?jacks,
but is it not as secure as having all four jacks under the aircraft especially
when it comes time to get up into the cockpit to operate the gear lever.?
Rather the strain placed on the tail cone while using a weight or tie down is
good or bad I really have no idea.
?
Hope all this helps.

Thanks for the tips,, looked at the BMA stuff.. little rich for my blood. I was
thinking of mointoring 1 egt and cht, or maybe even 2. Currently monitor one
of each with the old equipment. I would also do oil pres/temp, fuel pres, map,
rpm,oat... pretty much give me what I have now.

Hello to all. I usually don't write much here, but I read yaklist every
day. I've had (and rebuilt right off the boat) my blue (some call it the
Easter egg) CJ since they first started coming into the country even
before there was a Yaks Pilot Group, the Yak-List or people like Doug
Sapp and others that try to keep us supplied with pieces and parts. Many
of you know me through CJ and Yak check outs, formation training from
the very first clinic held through OSK 50 and aerobatic training, etc.
I have a couple of comments that might be worth while.
1. For those of you considering aircraft jacks. Don't waste time or
money on anything except the original CJ jacks. They are simple, strong
and made to do the CK job. Get all four.
I have a question. Are there left and right wing jacks? Mine are
identical, but I have a feeling that there should be a left and a right
jack.
2. When jacking the aircraft it is vital that you get the airplane high
enough off the ground (pavement). The nose gear, in swinging back, comes
closer to the pavement and if the airplane is not high enough THE NOSE
AND AIRPLANE WILL RISE AND TRY TO MOVE FORWARD OFF THE JACKS. This will
spoil more than your whole day.
3. In getting into a lot of different Yaks and CJs I note different lap
belt/shoulder harness configurations. Is there a feeling among any of
the group that maybe we should standardize the way the belt release is
set up. Is it better to pull the release with right hand or left hand?
For back seaters (instructors/check pilots, etc.) this might be desirable.
Merry Christmas or any other holiday you might celebrate.

I just bought two original (orange) jacks, one for each wing. Is there a certain
kind for the nose or engine? Can you tie the tail down and just use the two
wing jacks?
Thanks
