Remove the bolt (8 mm head and 8 mm nut) that goes through the nut on
the axle shaft
Next, remove the axle shaft nut. There should be a large washer behind
the axle nut.
With one hand at the 3 o'clock and one hand at the 9 o'clock position on
the tire, gently pull on the tire until the washer, cup and front
bearing are where you can grab them. It is quite common to see the drum
grooved. Under no circumstance should the drum be turned.
Place the wheel with the open end of the drum down on a pad.
Deflate the tire by removing the valve core
Next, break the bead of the tire from around the rim on both the front
and back side
At the valve stem, remove the nut and washer
Next, press down on the outside ring of the hub. This will release the
two large semi-circular clips which hold the outer ring in position
against the hub.
Lift the outer ring from around the hub
Lift the tire from around the hub.
When reassembling the tire, ring and hub, be sure the semi-circular clip
ends do not extend over the valve stem area. They can be installed 180
degrees out.

Need to replace main tire, YAK 52. Have already received it from
Desser. Just need to know how to do it, or more acurately how to tell
the local mechanic how to do it as he has no YAK experience.

Its easy. Tell him its just like the tire on an 18 wheeler, only a lot
smaller.
1. Deflate the tire. Remove the valve stem.
2. Squirt a little MMO or WD40 around the rim edge.
3. Push down on the rim side where the locking rings are. There are two of
them. Half and half.
4. Remove locking rings.
5. The rim will than spilt.
20 minutes at most per tire to change them out.
The rest is general aviation maintenance stuff.

Dennis, Pappy, et al-
The Yak 52 and the CJ6 mainwheel are identical. I would hazard a guess that the
axle, if not identical, is very similar.
IF that is correct you have missed a rather important item for a novice mechanic.
The RH axle and nut have a LEFT HAND thread, The LH side is standard RH thread.

Walt,
On the 52, both axle nuts are right hand threads.
