Subject: | RE: Yak-List Digest: 7 Msgs - 04/21/09 |
Hello everyone, a question about the clock
I have worked out how to use the stopwatch in the lower half of the dial,
start and stop and the hold button. I have worked out how to wind and how to
use the minute and our stopwatch in the upper half of the dial (the small
red flag is solid) but I do not know what the significance of the half white
half red flag is or what the all white flag means. So I would like to admit
my ignorance upfront, and ask if anyone has either a manual, instruction
from personal experience or even better if there is an endorsement that one
can put in the logbook for this instrument!
I am also fitting a Dynon A 10 this weekend, with remote mounted compass and
input from the GPS. I will report on how it functions, as there were some
questions about this sort of instrument not so long ago.

Sure. No problem. BTW, I used 15X6.00-6 tires. Are you planning on
using gear extensions, or just adapters?

Hi,
Anyone knows if the magneto high tension lead (insulated 7,5 cm long
and 7 mm wide pencil like rod wich connects the high tension coil to the
distributor cap), can be repaired or substituted by a piece of spark plug
wire? Insulation is burnt by arcing and I can't find a spare one. Unless I
buy an overhauled one, but it has only 20 hours since overhaul!

If you have already received an RPA Ecomm on this subject, please
disregard. If not, please read on and participate!
Greetings Red Star Aviators, The attached survey was constructed by
experienced Check, Instructor, and Lead Pilots in an attempt to assess the
experience level of individual pilots as well as their recurrent training
and the type of flying they routinely engage in. This data will be
collected anonymously and will be treated as confidential. It is hoped
that this will help to identify trends, provide recommendations for future
recurrent training and to identify training resources which our members
can access. The sole intent is to help our members fly their aircraft with
greater confidence and safety. Your participation is the key to our
success!
The survey takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. Please click the
link here to get started!

The results are available immediately and compiled results will be in an
upcoming Red Alert Magazine article.
Thank you for helping to make our community safer!

Subject: | black oxidation / passivation |
Am looking for suggestions on replacement screws=2C but I'm also curious ab
out metalurgy...
I'm not too pleased with the original Communist steel screws. By these I m
ean the screws that hold down fairings=2C not "structural" screws -- I woul
d always go with OEM stuff in those cases.
In replacement screws=2C I can go with steel screws=2C steel screws that ha
ve been passivated (black oxide or "hot" bluing they do with guns)=2C stain
less screws=2C or passivated stainless screws.
Anybody have any opinions on the merits of one of these options over the ot
hers?
Jon

Hi Jon,
I live near the coast of Florida and I use stainless screws for the fairings of
my CJ.
I had a restored Vette that had black oxide on the seat rails and they eventually
began to rust.
Here in Fl. with all the salt air I think rocks will corrode over time.

Jon,
I'm using stainless steel truss head metric screws to replace the Russian
ones. They come from McMaster Carr. You can also get them from Maryland
Metric Screw. I have not ordered from them but Dennis has.
