I believe that form is 8610, which is signed by the FSDO after they have reviewed your documentation of 2500 hrs *each* of supervised maintenance on engines and airframes. A certificate from an approved school also works. Then, you are allowed to take the oral, written and practical tests for an AMT, airframe and powerplant. In many FSDOs, I'm told that they no longer count homebuild time as it is not "maintenance". Anyone know more about what is current practice? Craig Payne cpayne@joimail.com

That's correct, the form is an 8610-2. This must be filled out in duplicate. The recommendation letter, typically written by the A&P who is making the recommendation to the FSDO, should include a statement, ".........meets the requirements of FAR 65.77(b) for airframe and powerplant work experience." I am new to owning a CJ. The plane has a very strong fuel odor in the cockpit. It is not present after the plane has been sitting in the hangar even with the canopy closed. I've opened the access door for the header tank on the belly and it is dry. Not weeping from the wings that I can see either. The smell becomes noticeable after engine start and does not go away. So I have been suspect of something forward of the firewall but find nothing leaking there either. Any ideas are welcome as to where to look. Check to make sure that the fittings at the primer are secure. Also check to make sure that the wobble pump is not leaking. To check both of these items remove the right hand kick panel in the front pit. The wobble pump may be leaking fuel when you pump up pressure on start up, same with the primer. Let me know what you find. Always Yakin, doug On Mon, Jun 29, 2009 at 8:22 AM, Craig Winkelmann <capav8r@gmail.com> wrote: > > I am new to owning a CJ. Craig, Have you looked at the fuel pressure senders which are located on the back side of the firewall on the right? Remove the large inspection panel on the right and look on the back side of the firewall, down low toward the bottom-right and forward of the false firewall. They should be painted yellow in the center. Sounds like it pressure related. Hi All, I am going to install new propeller blades on my CJ and would like recommendations on the type of paint and primer you find most suitable for an aluminum propeller. All comments are appreciated. Thanks, Terry Lewis
