I feel I need to respond to the distress evident in your comments about your
gun laws.
These are essentially the same gun laws that apply in Australia, they are
Draconian, ill-conceived and have clearly made absolutely no difference to
gun related statistics. As was originally pointed out, the people who do
these sorts of bad things with guns are not the sort of people who abide by
the law. Once the laws are entrenched, it is difficult to get them repealed.
New Zealand on the other hand, has a rather more evenhanded approach .
I would strongly recommend it if you are possessed of weapons, for whatever
reason their sport, target, competition as we are, then you should make
every attempt to prevent such legislation occurring in the States.
I wish you the very best of luck, as all attempts failed in Australia.
Insanity in this regard rules supreme.

Subject: Yak-List: HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act
of
2009.
From: Terry Calloway <tcalloway@datatechnique.com>
YOU THOUGHT IT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN HERE! WELL, HERE IT COMES!!!!
R 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009
Please send this to everybody on your list... this is Obama gun control by
secrecy.
Very Important for you to be aware of a new bill HR 45 introduced into the
House.
This is the Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act of 2009.
We just learned yesterday about this on the Peter Boyles radio program.
Even gun shop owners didn't know about this because it is flying under the
radar.
To find out about this - go to any government website and type in HR 45 or
Google HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009.
You will get all the information.
Basically this "little" piece of legislation would make it illegal to own
a firearm - any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:
.It is registered
.You are fingerprinted
.You supply a current Driver's License
.You supply your Social Security #
.You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their
choosing
.Each update - change or ownership through private or public sale must be
reported and costs $25
- Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and
are subject up to a year in jail.
There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a
child-access provision. Guns must be locked and inaccessible to any child
under 18.
The Government would have the right to come and inspect that you are
storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is
punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.
If you think this is a joke - go to the website and take your pick of many
options to read this..
http://www.opencong/ress.org/bill/111-h45/text
It is long and lengthy. But, more and more people are becoming aware of
this. Pass the word along.
FAILURE TO DO SO AT YOUR PERIL!
Any hunters in your family - pass this along.
Peter Boyles is on this and having guests. Listen to him on KHOW 630 a.m.
in the morning.
He suggests the best way to fight this is to tell all your friends about
it and "spring into action".
Also he suggests we all join a pro-gun group like the Colorado Rifle
Association, hunting associations, gun clubs JPFO (JEWS FOR THE
PRESERVATION OF FIREARMS OWNERSHIP) and especially the GOA and National
Rifle Association.
This is just a "termite" approach to complete confiscation of guns and
disarming of our society to the point we have no defense - chip away a
little here and there until the goal is accomplished before anyone
realizes it.
YOU MAY NOT OWN OR EVEN LIKE GUNS, but if you LOVE FREEDOM, YOU better get
involved NOW!!!
TOMORROW YOU MAY NOT HAVE AN OPTION.
This is one to act on whether you own a gun or not.

Craig,
How bout' the primer or wobble pump? There is also a fuel line that crosses the
cockpit in between the two cockpits at the floor level.
Also..maybe check the fuel pressure senders on frame 0

Hi guys. I just checked with the Legal Affairs branch of the NRA re: this
atrocious HR45 attempt. The good news is that although this was indeed
re-submitted, it currently has absolutely no representative willing to
co-sponsor it or touch it with the proverbial ten foot pole. Indeed it was
introduced by Bobby Rush, a Chicago based Black Panther and dishonorably
discharged member of the military who served prison time for possession.
The frustrating part is that "they" will keep attempting to sneak it
through. I renewed my NRA membership today for another five years. The
best thing we can do is to stay aware, educate the public on what this is
and who introduced it, and join a strong second amendment advocacy group.
On another note. The skies are clear, the weather perfect, and I have a
wonderful war - bird that can't wait to get aloft and go have some fun.
Neither can I. So y'all go tear up the skies, enjoy, - and fly safe as
always.

Subject: | Generator/Voltage Reg. |
I really know nothing about CJ's. Doug/Dennis/others are the experts.
That said, with any generator, by design it has to have a reverse
polarity relay somewhere. That's because at low RPM, the generator can
not put out more voltage than the battery. When that happens, battery
voltage flows back into the generator, and can achieve a very dramatic
current flow. In order to prevent this, as the engine slows down to
idle, and current just starts to flow "backwards" (towards the generator
instead OUT of it), a system of some sort senses this, and opens a relay
to prevent it from happening.
The generator light is normally an indicator of the status of this
relay. As in: OPEN or CLOSED. When open, the light is on.
To close this relay requires that the generator is putting out as much
or more than the battery, if a battery is installed. If a battery is
NOT installed, it will typically close around 22 volts or so (on a 28
VDC system), and will power the aircraft on it's own. Not all systems
do this of course, but these aircraft do, and I think that includes the
CJ.
The voltage regulator controls the generator to put out a steady and
consistent voltage. It is not very easy to take out and CHECK, but it
IS very easy to see if it is working or not. Simply connect a voltmeter
on the generator plus and minus contacts, then being very careful, start
the engine. As you raise engine RPM up past 40% or so, you should see
the voltage on your voltmeter come up and stabilize at around 27.5 to
28.5 volts. As you run the engine up and down from say 55% to 80% the
voltage on the meter should stay pretty darn stable. If it does, your
voltage regulator is working. If it does not, then your voltage
regulator is not working. By not working... I mean that typically one
of two things will happen. Either you will have no voltage at all, or
the voltage will rise and fall evenly with engine RPM and up around 80%
you could see a voltage as high as 35 volts or so. It is also possible
to have a bad voltage regulator and still have voltage out of the
generator. When this happens, poor regulation is normally noticed. Be
aware that SOME voltage out of the generator may not be ENOUGH voltage
out of the generator to close the reverse polarity relay, so make darn
sure the voltage goes up to at least 27-28 volts.
If there is NO voltage there is another set of testing procedures that I
see no need to go into, since you say you do have voltage.
I assume there is nothing but a discharge on the amp meter, and you are
showing nothing but battery voltage on the voltmeter. This is indeed a
solid sign that the generator is not being connected to the main bus of
the electrical system.
Again, if the battery voltage is solid and stable as you vary engine RPM
above 50% or so, then you need to track down where the main contactor
relay is for your aircraft ... Doug? Dennis? I don't know where it
is, or even what it looks like. On the YAK's and older Sukes, it is the
DNP-200 relay and it has the MAIN contactor relay, the reverse polarity
relay and two other control relays inside of it. In any case, that is
the device, whatever it is called on your aircraft, that you need to go
find. A strong possibility is that in some way or another, the gen
light is connected to it, either directly or indirectly. Be careful
messing with it when you find it. If you close it somehow and the
engine is at low RPM or not running, then there will be a very high
current flow from the battery to the generator. Your fuse or circuit
breaker should protect you from a disaster, but it is still not a good
idea to be careless with this thing. Disconnect your battery when
messing with it, so you will be safe.

Mark,
Sorry, its a CJ6 with The Housai 285HP. Verifying by gen. light staying
on and the volt/ammeter. Talked to Doug again today and I do have a
solid state regulator.
but don't know how to check if its good.
Thanks,

What kind of airplane? If Russian, then suspect your DNP-200
relay is going south.

P.s. When you say the generator is not coming on line, how are
you verifying that?

Gang,
Occationally(maybe between 5 and 10 flts) after eng. start the
generator wouldn't come on line. Just ran the throttle up and back thru
1,000RPM a time or two and then gen.
would come and all was fine. So during the conditional insp.
checked brushes and found one a little more worn than the others so got
new ones from Doug and now gen.
won't come on line at all. We flashed field and gen is putting
out voltage at gen. but not coming on line. Did continuity check of all
wires seems fine. My system does not have std. voltage reg. but a Zener
Diode for regulation. Does anyone else have this set up? Any ideas what
to check next?
Thanks,
Ron Kalemba

I am going to install metal covers for the holes in the gear wells on the plane.
There are nut plates for the nose wheel so those are simple. I was going to
use either Nutserts or Rivnuts for the mains. Does anybody have an opinion
on which one is better? Also, would 6061 Aluminum be the choice or cad plated
steel.

Subject: | Aileron stop bracket |
Gents,
I need some help with this one. While doing my 25 hr inspection I found the stop
tab for the ailerons cracked (right stick). When I touched it, it broke right
off.
This assembly seems to be a cast piece of metal heavily riveted to some longitudinal
bracing on both sides of the torque tube. You'll see in the attached photos
the tab that broke.
Has anyone dealt with this? I see no option but to remove the rear cockpit floor
or at least create some new "inspection panels". This looks like an extremely
tough place to get at.
There is a piece of cross brace the unit also rivets to (parallel to the main spar).
Looks like I could put a temporary stop there.
Just not sure where to go with this. Sorry about the pictures. It's so tight it
was even hard to get a camera in there.
