Is this the same Fowler Cary that has or had the T-33? If so, we met
for the first time in the mid '90's at an airshow in North Carolina.

Guys,
We have a brand new Yak-52 owner (Fowler Cary) stranded in Mountain
Home, AR with an air system problem. Could anyone assist with an air
hose, scuba tank, etc?

It has never been clear to me what the position of the list is in
relation to commercial activities. On one hand I have seen that it is
supposed to be a forum for exchange of ideas etc, and NOT for anything
commercial, but on the other hand I see blatantly commercial postings.
Clearly I am myself in the Yak business, although fortunately do not
have to live totally from it, but it does seem to me that there is a
need for a "commercial" Yak list, where people can post products;
aircraft; components etc.
I have no idea what people generally think of this - is it a good idea?

Many thanks to all of you who responded to the current rash of parts for
sale with kind words of support, and I do appreciate that. Yes I know these
people, they are "middle men" scurrying around trying to match up a sale
with someone who has the part. Problem is that if there is a glitch in the
deal they run for the hills crying "sorry my seller will not help me", so
they leave you high and dry, and why should they help? They are several
thousand miles away on the other side of the freaking world and hey, they
already have 100% of the cost of the part plus shipping.
Again, thanks for your on going support and encouragement. Now that we are
not killing flowers any more parts are what's keeping the lights on.
All the best.

as a member of this unique Yak community, I welcome any listing of parts
and information so that I can maintain my Yak to the highest standards.
I am also interested in any Yaks that are placed on the market for sale.
I would not want to see listings of span cans or other unrelated items.
I go to ebay for that.
Thank you

A C-130 is a "Target"?
Tell that to the crews flying the AC-130 gunship.
Doc, to the guys who are concerned only with the rush of flying, the F-16 is a
clear winner. To the folks flying aircraft that remember that their main role
in life is to support the guys on the ground, .... There is a completely different
outlook.
Sorry, this is WAY off topic, but I just could not let it go. :-)

Russ,
I'm 59 years old entering my last year of military (ANG) service and am still flying
the F-16. There are things to be said about comfort and riding but when
it comes to shear fun with what's left of my hair on fire the venerable ol 130
is just not going to cut it! There are fighters and then there are targets. The
130 is a target. When it comes to the fight, I'll take 4 X 4 gun any day with
the ability to shoot back not throughing trash out to the back. As for comfort,
the Viper is strapped on like your favorite pair of driving gloves. You strap
her on as an extension of yourself not walk up the steps/ramp into a cavern.
With that 30 degree tilt seat, I'm quite comfortable in that little cocoon
with the panoramic view not having to ID my foe by looking out at the world
through a portal. Although a nimble aircraft, the 130 will shuck her wings at
9 Gs everytime!

A C-130 was lumbering along when a cocky F-16 flashed by.
The jet jockey decided to show off.
The fighter jock told the C-130 pilot, 'watch this!' and promptly went into a barrel
roll followed by a steep climb. He then finished with a sonic boom as he
broke the sound barrier. The F-16 pilot asked the C-130 pilot what he thought
of that?
The C-130 pilot said, 'That was impressive, but watch this!'
The C-130 droned along for about 5 minutes and then the C-130 pilot came back on
and said: 'What did you think of that?'
Puzzled, the F-16 pilot asked, 'What the heck did you do?'
The C-130 pilot chuckled. 'I stood up, stretched my legs, walked to the back, went
to the bathroom, then got a cup of coffee and a cinnamon bun.'
When you are young & foolish - speed & flash may seem a good thing !!!
When you get older & smarter - comfort & dull is not such a bad thing !!!
Us older folks understand this one.

Subject: Yak-List: B&C alternator conversion on a stock CJ.
Does anyone out there have any advice on installing the B&C alternator
on a stock CJ? I ask because I'm hearing a couple different things
about adaptor plates, oil seals, special gears, etc. I've ordered the
alternator and VR from B&C, an adaptor plate from Doug Sapp, but would
really like to hear from someone who has been there and done that just
to make sure we aren't missing something. Please contact off list at
jblake207@comcast.net <mailto:jblake207@comcast.net> or voice
334-791-5690. Thanks, Jon

Subject: | Re: B&C alternator conversion on a stock CJ. |
I've recently been thru the wringer with this with the B&C alternator I had installed
for me on my CJ. Multiple alternator failures in flight, broken gears,
searching the engine for metal parts, spending all my time at OSH working on
the plane, etc. Do it right and it works like a champ. Don't and it is a mess.
DO NOT use the Housai pinion gear that drives the generator. ONLY use the M-14P
drive gear. Make sure you adjust the backlash properly in the ring gear that
drives the generator pinion gear.
George Coy got me the proper M-14 pinion gear. Took like six to eight weeks and
cost $275. The one I got from George is here on my desk ready to be sent to
Bill at B&C who fortunately had one at OSH and gave it to me so I could fly
home after draining the oil at OSH to remove the brass shavings in the oil from
the Housai gear failure (now THAT'S customer service!!). I later found the
missing cog in the engine when I got back home. It could have caused MAJOR damage
if it had worked its way lower in the accessory case.
After my debacle, Bill was going to work on a modification of the male spline shaft
that he provides with the alternator. Even with his new shaft, you still
MUST use the M-14P gear.
The B&C Alternator and VR are very simple to install and the B&C VR gives lots
of protection. Just do it right. Make sure you also follow the B&C installation
and troubleshooting guide to verify proper voltages, etc.
Hope this helps.
Craig W.

I would suggest calling the owner of B&C himself. He is a terrific
person, DEDICATED to making a great product and knows these issues like
the back of his hand. If you do, please tell him I said hello and wish
him well. I strongly believe in this mans products and would purchase

As to commercial activities on this list.....................
Seems to me things are going along great with the list the way it is.
People let people know about their products. A limited, targeted,
special interest type commercial activity isn't a problem until it
becomes spam (read that to mean repeated postings to where people get
sick of it). Let people know what you got but don't make a nuisance of
yourself with "advertising like" activities. I think that is the secret
to a list like this. Most people want to know what's available out there
but if it's pounded into their heads like a commercial it won't go over
too well.
