Craig, No pictures were attached. Can you please send them to me off-list at dsavarese0812@bellsouth.net? Thanks very much. Dennis ----- Original Message ----- From: Craig Winkelmann To: yak-list@matronics.com Sent: Saturday, November 07, 2009 7:20 AM Subject: Yak-List: Re: B&C alternator conversion on a stock CJ. The design of the Housai and M-14P generators are different in how the lower bearing on the generator is oiled. Hence, the pinion drive gear is different. I have attached three pictures of the M-14P pinion drive gear here. Note the gear has a metal plug at the base. The Housai gear does not. In the B&C application, this metal plug serves two purposes: 1) it keeps oil out of the bottom of the alternator during aerobatics (a very good thing), and; 2) it provides support to the male shaft that fits into the female splined part of the pinion gear. Without this support, the male shaft, due to gravity, vibration, etc will fall out of the shear coupling that is on the alternator. When this happens, the alternator stops spinning (now you are flying off battery power only). This can also cause the shear coupling in the B&C design to fail. (the shear coupling is replaceable and is there to protect the engine in the rare case of a bearing in the alternator seizing). Bill (owner of B&C) was considering making an injection moulded male shaft with a collar on it that would prevent the shaft from falling out of the shear coupling. This only solves item 2. However, he did have one customer who had a hole worn thru the metal plug after many hours of flying. So, the injection moulded part was to prevent this from happening. What is unknown is what the wear on the collar may/will be. I hope this helps. Aircraft Cleaning Is Simple Green safe for cleaning aircraft? Simple Green manufactures products specifically designed for use on aircraft. Products available on the market are Extreme Simple Green Aircraft & Precision Cleaner and Simple Green Pro HD. These products were initially developed for the aircraft industry and extensive testing shows that they are safe for use on aluminum, plastics, rubbers and high tech alloys, even in the most extreme circumstances. These products conform to both Boeing D6-17487P spec for general aircraft exterior cleaning and Pratt & Whitney PWA 36604revC spec for aircraft engine cleaning. http://www.simplegreen.com/about_us_press_extreme.php -------- Milt Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=271677#271677

I'm a lurker/n00b who is transitioning to active shopper for a CJ-6. What's the best source for 'chutes? I've searched the web and prices seem to vary as much as $1,000 for the same 'chute (something like a Softie seat 'chute). Pete, I ordered my chute from Strong at the Oshkosh gathering and have been very happy. They are familiar with the CJ-6A and have one that fits perfectly. Given them a call and they'll walk you through the various options available. Take a look at: www.strongparachutes.com/pages/pc_squadron_warbird.php This is one item where you do not want to cut corners. I'm sure that others on the list will have suggestions as well. My parachute rigger seems to always have a source for used rigs. He's a good guy and a fellow skydiver. Be careful as some manufacturers have defined life spans on their seat rigs. I have two 10 year old seat packs that look like new but cannot be legally repacked. Parachute Shop as well. Got a great price on two seat pack softies with acro harness. I suggest you try on as many chute types as you can and think about what configuration your a/c seat will be in (back cushion vs no back cushion etc.) The CJ is not that comfy to begin with and a crappy chute makes it downright agonizing. http://www.parachuteshop.com/minisoftie_seat_photos.htm funny thing....I just looked for the web site for this chute and it has a picture of my kid wearing it! We both love this setup -------- Keith McKinley 700HS KFIT Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=271762#271762
