While it is primarily the controllers fault, the other two aircraft should have been paying closer attention as well. Poor situational awareness on the RJ and Pilatus' part. Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=286093#286093

I do not disagree. SA is so important in all aspects of flight and at all times. Once you expect and accept an intersection takeoff, you should be very cognizant at what's happening at the end of the runway. Pardon the pun but a red flag should go up. Busy airport, everyone is in a hurry, the RJ and Pilatus are rushing ( you can tell that just in the tone and cadence of their transmissions) however the tower is at fault. If you've been in a number of busy towers cabs, you know there is a lot of things going on around a controller that can cause distractions. A career (the controller's) is most likely shot to hell for a good while. And a bunch of paxs have had the piss scared out of them. The PAA/SAS accident is a classic in all the things that can go wrong at an airport. Vick Grubbs and Roy Butler were good friends whom I flew wit h a great deal before and after that day. This incident has all those mak eings. Jim "Pappy" Goolsby

After 30 years of commercial flying and several controller "malfunctions", I'd say they're excellent 98% of the time. enough to lull a pilot into a sense of complacency. Always listen to what's happening in your situational awareness field and keep a running visual of that in your head. It's saved me (and the controller's job) several times. Trust, but verify and "Whew!" Great graphics and thanks for reminding us.

Folks, this ad is being placed for a friend. NO, it is not a YAK, but let's say it is a powerful cousin! I've seen the airplane and can verify that it is one very hot rod son of a gun. Not for the faint of heart, and definitely for someone who wants the best of the best. For those of you (us) who think that the YAK-50 is unbeatable in a dog-fight .... ummm.... you might want to rethink that after you see this thing fly. Mark Bitterlich For Sale: Sukhoi Super Su-26. Rich Hamilton was the long time chief of maintenance for Pompano Air Center, the original distributor of Sukhoi airplanes in the Americas from the beginning. He has assembled, inspected and maintained most of the Sukhois which exist in the USA, and is an expert in every respect. The next conditional inspection will be due in January of 2011. If you would like to speak Rich or Chris about their impressions of this airplane, just let me know and I'll put you in touch. Worried about availability of parts? Not to worry! I have a hangar full and will support the purchaser of this airplane. It might beat a -50 in 1-v-1...but for that kind of money, I would get a 4 -50's and go all China on him....meaning overwhelm him with numbers!! Nice bird.....can I live in it? Did you watch the YouTube video Tim? This is basically one of those aircraft that if you have to ask how much it costs, you really need to look elsewhere. This is a one of a kind aircraft, built using the best features of three different models of Sukhoi, to create a purpose built aircraft meant to kick ass in any aerobatic contest, limited only by the abilities of the pilot and little else. The design allows it to be supported by existing parts, the proof of the design comes from winning the four minute free-style, and the price is in line with what the very best of these aircraft go for these days. Just to give the uninitiated a little hint... the landing gear struts on these aircraft and made from solid titanium. SOLID TITANIUM! Go anywhere you want in the U.S. of A. and ask how much it would cost to make just one. The wings have been stress tested to over 20 G's before failure. Then tested again AFTER they failed and they held the SECOND time (same wings) to over 9 G's. The engine is one of the most powerful M-14's ever produced by Russia. The fuel system has been customized to allow long cross countries... and this thing will cruise faster than a YAK-50. Comparing how many YAK-50's you can buy for one of these, is honestly comparing apples to oranges. No matter how many apples you buy, you still don't have an orange. The old saying applies: "Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?" In this case, we are talking about competitive aerobatics. How much is the very best worth? Depends on how badly you want to win. My Yak 50 has a new M14R engine, measured at the factory in Moscow at 437 hp, three-bladed MT prop, empty weight 720 kg. Oil cooler from an MI8 helicopter. But would be NO MATCH IN ANY WAY with this Sukhoi 26.
