You will have to make a back plate that will mount to the ADI hole the Chinese/Ru ADI comes out of. I believe the face was a 4-5=9D square. Anyone have a brand/model number? Thanks, Dave ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 08:08:07 AM PST US From: "Roger Kemp M.D." Subject: RE: Yak-List: gill question on CJ6 (yes I searched the archive) Yep, had to replace the 50's gills after a bird strike. The same thing. Just locked them in the open position and safety wired the inner ring lever. Have not had time to tweak it because of other time consuming issues with my office. Will get back to it this spring. They do not move well when the outer ring is warped. Even flying in this past cold ass winter once cylinder head temps were up did not need them. The stand offs need to be all the correct length so that the outer ring is not twisted or bowed. What happens is that the inter ring that moves the vanes is working against the outer ring. I just replaced my gills vanes and had this very problem. It turned out that one of the cylinder stand offs, was about 3/8" short. I sighted from the side and could just make out a slight bow in the out ring. Once that was fixed, it work smooth as silk. The vanes were never detached from the center ring, but were removed from the outer ring (to enable riviting for weatherstrip) by removing the nut, and then the long "bolt". reinstalled today,, and suddenly they are very hard to open and close. The nuts were tightened just enough to prevent up and down movement. any tips? ideas? thanks Mike -------- Mike "Skidmk" Bourget Ottawa, Ontario Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=290979#290979 =================================== get=_blank>http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Yak-List =================================== tp://forums.matronics.com =================================== _blank>http://www.matronics.com/contribution =================================== ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 01:43:59 PM PST US Subject: Yak-List: Re: gill question on CJ6 (yes I searched the archive) From: "skidmk" another potential gotcha. I was looking though the parts manual for a hint as to the problem..... 3 of the vanes have shorter bolts than the others... this may be causing its own set of issues as well. Back to the hangar tear it apart and go from there. First impression was the totally different shape than the old V530 First flight onSaturday with new prop produced shorter take off distance and a surprisingly better climb rate. Pitch was set to produce 100% at full throttle and on take off roll at full power went to 103%. Maybe need a very slight tweak on the angles. This was with full tanks and 3 big blokes. Yesterday, Sunday 21st went to fly-in come airshow. 30 min flight along the coast. Tailwind there and headwind home but appears to be about 8 to 9 knots faster at the same settings. Oh, and by the way, much smoother and a lot less vibration. Very significant improvement during aero display. 1/2 tanks and 2 POB. Improved climb and aircraft hung in during manoeuvres and rolls far better than original Russian prop. We had a height limitation of 1500 ft due to controlled airspace and hence could not loop, but feel happy that the prop will deliver the goods at aeros requiring higher power settings. Attached photo of inverted during roll may demonstrate the attitude of increased performance in that the nose does not seem to want to drop away as much as before. Rolls at 80/80. I have been looking at replacing the prop for about a year and looked at Whirlwind, MT and GT propellers. Have to say that at this stage I am very pleased with the all round increase in performance. Cheers and regards, Chris.
