Remove the prop dome and piston assembly. If there is oil
inside the hub, the inner seal on the piston is bad (possibly
incorrectly installed too) OR the seal behind the oil tube is bad or
the
tube is not fully tightened. Most likely it's the inner seal on the
piston if there is oil pooling inside the hub. If the piston outer
seal
is leaking, there will be oil on the inside of the "skull cap" dome.
As
Mark says, check the front seal on the nose case to see if there is
evidence of oil around the prop hub/flange shaft.

I think you have an M-14 with a two blade V-530 hub
correct? If so...
Depends on exactly what you mean by hub seals. The ones
on the prop
blades are there to keep the grease in. If there is OIL
coming out of
THOSE prop blade flanges, it is not a bad Hub Blade seal
that is the
problem. It's one of the OTHER ones.
If we are talking OIL, there are usually three areas of
concern.
1. The large and small o'ring seals for the hub piston
(you take the
front hub cover off to get at these)
2. The oil control tube crush washer. This is the PIPE
that screws
into the front of the engine that the oil goes through
to get to the hub
and control the prop. This has a crush washer on the
front that leaks
and ends up coming out the prop area.
3. The shaft seal on the reduction gearbox...that is
NOT easy to
change, but does not usually go bad unless you're doing
serious acro.
You're going to have to determine exactly where the oil
is coming from.
That has been my experience... Others better versed
probably have more
accurate advice. I am by no means a prop expert.

Doc, you just defined the differences between the services perfectly.
One service prefers to put fighting the war first. Get close, get
dirty, get er done.
Another service asks if their linens are ready, if the runway is long
enough, if the Q room is warm or cool, whether the beer is cold, and
make ABSOLUTELY sure no one is trying to actually kill you, and then
maybe that service will participate....And then write themselves up for
a bunch of air medals in the process.
GO AIR FORCE!

Mark,
That reminds me of the procedures at NAS Kingsville when we had an FCLP
pattern full on the parallel 13's. If a T-38 out of SAT came down for an
approach (the approach was set up for13L) we had to delta our students
overhead until the -38 was out of the way. Rwy 13R met the 8,000' minimum,
but 13L was a dangerously short 7,998'. The tower called us and told us to
get our flock out of the way. Lots of LSO's had sunburned middle
fingers......

Mark,
I always got a kick out of the procurement process. The Air Force got
new stuff, turned it over to the Navy when they spiffed up their facilities,
then when a leg or two was busted off of a table or chair, it went to the
Marines. Most JO quarters on an AFB were nicer than senior officer quarters
on any NAS. Maybe nicer than flag quarters. Made most AFB's a great RON.
Kept Beaufort off of the list of favorites!

Hmmmm. The oldest honorable service of the United States of America has
always been the lowly GI (i.e. Army). Our first commander was none other
than GW. We had the first ballown and we also had the first airplane.
The rest is just history. Navy, Marines, and Air Force? Just specialized
trained oddities. ;>}

Nobody said anything about the Danged Marines...you guys don't know the
ifference between clean linen or not. Just turn it inside out and wear
couple of more days.

Doc, you just defined the differences between the services perfectly.
One service prefers to put fighting the war first. Get close, get
irty, get er done.
Another service asks if their linens are ready, if the runway is long
nough, if the Q room is warm or cool, whether the beer is cold, and
ake ABSOLUTELY sure no one is trying to actually kill you, and then
aybe that service will participate....And then write themselves up for
bunch of air medals in the process.
GO AIR FORCE!
You betcha!

Yes, Fly Navy...from deep blue postage stamp to deep blue postage stamp
ll the while sleeping with a bunch of guys in a closet. I prefer my
unways long and stable not moving all the while trying to kill me. I
refer my linens clean and cool in MY Q room not warm and freshly slept
n. I prefer to have a cold beer at the end of a Sierra Hotel sortie not
aving to wait until the boat slides into her port of call a month after
hat Shit Hot sortie.
Go Air Force!
Vipers forever!
