Subject: a YAK for a WW2 feature film
    From: Michael Umansky <mishka99@sbcglobal.net>
Hello all, Looking for a Bay Area YAK owner who would want to be filmed flying it in a WW2 feature film being shot in the Bay Area this summer. This is a self-funded no budget film shoot so I can't afford to pay much (if any) above the cost of fuel and oil (and any other related expendables). You would be listed in credits as an actor (Russian Pilot, you don't need to speak it:), aero-stunt coordinator, and producer. Would need to shoot (hopefully in one day, as close to dusk as possible): 1) two fly-overs 2) two takeoffs (while under attack from arriving German soldiers) 3) two landings 4) taxiing and idling Would prefer to shoot at some private airstrip that you can recommend and would be willing to land/takeoff at. If such preferred location isn't available then would like a recommendation for the least busiest small airport in Bay Area (whom I would have to ask permission to shoot there). I would prefer to shoot over a weekend but I'll work with your schedule if you can't do weekends (or if the recommended quietest airport is too busy). If you are an owner who would be willing to help then please contact me directly. Or if you know an owner who might be interested then please forward this posting to them. Thank you. Subject: Intake runner collar threading tool.
    From: "Pete Fowler" <pfdesign1@cox.net>
While doing the conditional inspection, we found a cross-threaded intake runner collar on my Housai engine. The first couple of rows of threads on the engine case were pretty badly damaged. The bright minds at Santa Paula (including Hal Provo) concocted and fabricated this tool that worked perfectly. It re-cut the damaged threads nearly good as new and a potentially huge repair was reduced to a much smaller repair (well other than having to fabricate a tool and spend a night in a hangar!). Since I now have this tool, if anyone in the community has occasion to need it, I'd be happy to "rent" it at a very nominal fee. I assume (but don't know for sure) that it would be the same for an M14? -------- N4183E http://nanchangcjs.yuku.com/ Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=293972#293972 Attachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/intakerunnerthreadingtool_185.jpg

Sorry to read that you have dry ice in the US. Here in France we NEVER keep ice dry...never dry for long...bad for the health. I'd invite you guys to check that out here in Paris at LFPP. Recently picked up my new Nanchang CJ6 in Brainerd Minnesota and flew her home to Camarillo, California. It's been weeks but i'm still smiling!!! Just wanted to say thank you to all those members who reached out and ans wered all my questions and gave me great advise. The 1987 Nanchang is a wo nderful Andy Gemellaro restoration and it's just been a blast to fly. Some many folks answered questions, offered rides, and spent countless hou rs bringing me up to speed. Andy Gemerallo, Hal Provo (Hal explained some things while we were inverted!), Craig Eckberg, Barry Hancock just to nam e a few... Thanks it's great to be a part of such a fine community! see attached pic John Martins N815YK

Geez Barry, it sure took a long time to get that CJ off the runway didn't i t?-- I wonder how long it took them to smooth that much dirt-out?- - Had it been a YAK-50, they would have only needed to carve out 250 feet or so.- - :-) - Mark - p.s.- I have about 800 hours in T-34B's and I have indeed flown out of we ird crap the same or worse than that.- The T-34 is an underpowered beast, but the landing gear is tough as nails. Agreed that the CJ is a better per former, but the T-34 has WAY WAY more cockpit room.- Put a 550 in it and it comes alive.- Even better with a PT-6, called a T-34C.- - --- On Mon, 4/12/10, Barry Hancock <bhancock@worldwidewarbirds.com> wrote: From: Barry Hancock <bhancock@worldwidewarbirds.com> Subject: Yak-List: CJ take off from rough field....
