Subject: | IFR upgrade to the act 1830 |
G'day everyone on the list,
I am looking for a method to allow a full upgrade to IFR for my yak 18T
registered in Australia. I'm in the experimental category, and there hasn't
been one upgraded yet to the best of my knowledge. So I'm asking for advice
for options. There is a requirement under our legislation for separate power
systems for the instruments. That either means 2 alternators/generators with
separate systems or electrical plus another system such as vacuum. Has
anyone experience with these on the M14p, or in the 18 itself
Cheers Stewart Graham

We have had this problem and got round it with a seccond battery, and the
ability to separate the two.
But only gives a limited reserve.
I think George Coy sells a vacuum pump drive.
OR you could look at his electric start systems and take a drive from
there?

I don't believe it to be mag timing. Certainly check it though. Did
you try advancing the throttle with it only on one mag at a time? Based
on what you described, it sounds more like fuel starvation. Have you
replaced any of the fuel hoses recently? Check the fuel screen and also
the finger screen in the carburetor. It could also be the diaphragm in
the carburetor has fractured.

When I conduct a runup on my CJ @ 1860 Man Press and check the Mags,
the engine makes a popping sound and Man Pres Bounces up and down on
both Mags until it's about to die. If i leave it on both mags and
advance the throttle, the engine just about dies and then seconds later
does what it's suppose to do.
After completing a flight, I performed a runup and when the throttle
was advanced the engine quit. My friend thinks it might be Mag
Timing.......
Any ideas? Carb?

The original Yak 52TW's were delivered with a vacuum pump drive assembly
mounted at the old tach generator mounting point. As Richard says,
check with George Coy as he was the original importer and was intimately
involved in the development and delivery of the 52TW.

Anyone out there installed the Dynon Auto pilot Servo in a CJ6A? Do you
have a recommended location, bracket, model? Any lessons learned that
