It is not a simple job!
You have the choice of a single 180 litre tank each side which is not
great from the position of quantity measure ment.
The better solution is a separate 85 litre tank in each wing with a
separate filler and a non-return valve between the two.
BUT either means that you have to compromise the strength of the wing
and this strength has to be replaced.
Also, all has to be done in a proper wing-jig to keep the wing
straight. So not a job to be done at home!!

How often do you need the long range of the extra fuel?
I was at Sun&Fun airshow and at one of the exhibitors booths was a guys se
lling flexible bladders tanks. They were different sizes and shapes. One
was even shape like a seat. (I personally don't think I could bring mysel
f to sit on one). Some years ago (3) I looked into the possibility of get
ting tankage for a possible Trans-Atlantic flight for the B-24. These wou
ld have hung in the bomb bay much like the "Tokyo" tanks of WW2. It was
quite possible with these bladder tanks.
I am not that familiar with the 18T's fuel system but would it be possible
to put a bladder tank in that humongous baggage compartment and hook into
the regular fuel system?
Size and how much fuel you could carry would depend on c/g constraints.
There is always compermise in design. The idea of carrying fuel in the
fuselage may not be the best of ideas, but has been done so since the ver
y first airplane. Depending on the government you live under, that might
cause more head aches than getting a tank to fit somewhere.

There is also a simple factory mod. for a 130 litre tank in the rear
baggage compartment. No fuel management-this gets used first and then it
goes over to the normal wing-tanks.
The 18T is a big plane with a lot of room inside, but this does take up
two-thirds of the compartment.AND,with a big guys in the rear seat,the C
o G is getting a fair way back!!

Has anyone looked at the YAK-52 wing bladders as a replacement for the cans
in the 18T's wing? I do not know much about the 18T fuel system so that is
why I ask the question. There is a great article by Gil Hayes in the Fall
RPA magazine on installing the fuel bladders in the YAK-52. Are the bays in
the 18T the same size? If so, then the RU design bureau has signed off on
the instillation of bladders in the 52 for EU use. Why would that not work
for the 18T?

Unfortunately Doc, the Yak 52 fuel bladders will not fit the 18T, nor
will the CJ6 bladders. They can definitely be fabricated though. It
would require an 18T to take all the measurements etc. and then to
install the initial prototype bladders just like we did for the Yak 52
bladders.

Copy. If there is as much space in the bays of the 18T as the 52 or even the
50, then there is potential.

Subject: | T6 training in the DC area |
Hi fellow yakkers. I am a BA pilot stranded in Washington by the ash cloud. Unless
the politicians make some decisions, I'm likely to be here until the end of
the week.
I would like to use my time here usefully, and to that end would like to do some
refresher flying on a T6. I hope to fly a friend's YAK 11 sometime later this
summer, and would like to do some air and pattern work on a T6 to get used to
the increased weight and inertia, having largely flown Yak50s for the last 10
years.
To this end, is anyone aware of a T6 operation in the DC/Baltimore/Philly area
that I could hire with a CFI for some training?
Thanks guys.

Hey Don,
That was Craig Ekberg and myself. I'm guessing your were near Staniel Cay.
We go out to the out islands each year right before sun and fun. Normally,
we have a bunch more with us, but Craig and I were the only two CJs this
year. And the flying is some of the most breath taking you'll ever have.
The colors in the shallow waters are amazing. This year, it was Cat Island
at Fernandez Bay, New Bight, North Eluthera, Harbour Island and finally
Staniel Cay.
As you say, it's better in the Bahamas!
All is good to take these birds over there, they love having us. Feel free
to get in touch for more info on how to get out there. Fuel is a bit
tricky, but if you plan for it, it's really no problem..
Enjoy the Bahamas!

Hi Gang,
We've been over in the Bahamas now for 6 weeks and just when you think it
can't get any better than this.... a couple of CJ-6's make a beautiful low
pass the yacht! Don't know who you guys were but if you're on the list,
well done! Saw you again today (16th Friday) heading back north to Nassau.
I haven't taken my Yak 52 over to Bahamas. Does anyone on the list has any
info regarding bringing a experimental exhibition plane into Bahamas? Any
special requirements into the islands or different requirements coming back
into the USA other than the usual flight plan, Homeland security code, etc?
All the best for now.

Thanks Doc, I'd dearly love to. My airline are however running this as a rolling
24 hour cancellation, so I can drive an hour or two, but need to be fairly close
for any (unlikely) recall.
Just wish the FAA was in charge of this situation, not a bunch of dithering eurocrats.

Subject: | Re: Strut fill adaptor |
Kergg - finally got around to taking this to the hangar, what I need may be
different. There's a cover cap you remove then a male threaded piece
that screws into the strut. I need the piece that will attach to that male
piece. Unless you are supposed to remove that piece also and screw in
yours. Didn't know if I unscrewed that piece, if the gas would leak out or if
there is another valve behind it.
Please advise.
Thanks, Dave

Tater came up empty but Hollywood may know a guy at Manasas, Virginia that
may still be T 6 check outs. He was bringing the B-25 back from Wright
Patterson AFB today. He said he would have to get it from his office
tomorrow morning.

Thanks Doc, I'd dearly love to. My airline are however running this as a
rolling 24 hour cancellation, so I can drive an hour or two, but need to be
fairly close for any (unlikely) recall.
Just wish the FAA was in charge of this situation, not a bunch of dithering
eurocrats.

High density roll foam sand witched between a leather strip that is folded
over and double stitched. Our local aircraft interior and paint shop makes
them for us.
