    Terry, What is the symptom with the starting coil? No spark to the magneto cap? If so, definitely check the starting coil wire to the mag cap first. Many times the wire itself is bad, as the rubber casing deteriorates over time and the wire tends to arc to ground before the spark gets into the mag cap. If you've determined the starting coil wire is good, then check the points under the top cover of the starting coil. Many times you will find they have a mound on them, preventing the points to close flush. Dress the points with a point file or similar file. Then with the starting coil wire held close to ground (approx. 1/2" or so), the spark should jump to ground when the start button is pressed. BTW, before you press the start button to test this, to prevent engine rotation turn the main air off and squeeze the brake handle until you can not hear any air exhausting when you release the brakes. That way when you press the start button, all you'll get is the spark from the starting coil. No engine rotation. Adjust the point gap with the knurled screw near the points (it probably has some thread locker on it) until you see the spark jump about 1/2" to ground at the end of the staring coil wire. If the wire is good and the points are clean and you can not get the spark to jump about 1/2" at the end of the starting coil wire, the coil assembly is most likely bad. Call Doug for a new one.     Dennis, I could have been a little more descriptive of the problem . The solenoid on this air valve does not always open . I am thinking that there is an adjustment of the top part of this valve . Thanks, Terry

    Terry, I believe the starter solenoid on the CJ-6 is the same as the YAK-50. There are two types, one without the external actuator lever and one with. The guts inside are the same on both. They are not adjustable. However, you can take them apart and clean them and usually get a little more life from the things. I did that and managed to get another two years out of one, but eventually had to replace it. You can take the guts out of one without the external lever and put them into one WITH the external lever if you want to.     Before taking it apart, try flushing it out. Inject WD-40, MMO or some thin cleaner in the air line going in to the unit, remove the air out line, pressurize the system and push the start/pull the lever and hold a cloth to catch the debris.     Guys, Remove the hose FROM the start spider on the engine, Tie wrap a shop towel around this end of the hose and let it hang down, next fill the line going TO the solenoid with WD40, then hit the button or depress the lever. This will flush out the solenoid. This will help if your problem is junk in the system, but will not help if your problem is in the electrical portion of the valve (which it normally is). I have them new in stock if needed.     No, the air start valve does not have an adjustment. You may be able to disassemble and clean as it sometimes gets gunked up.     Subject: Exchange rate
    Closely watching the Euro/USD exchange rate come down...I have had a shopping list ready for a while now for M-14P parts, props, etc. Hoping for a level-off at a price-point favorable to a po' boy. But, just like gasoline, prices always shoot up at 10X the speed of downtrends. Perhaps the answer will be aftermarket parts "Made in USA". Seems to some evidence of that happening now. Craig Payne
