The one on mine was added, maybe off a Queenair, not sure. However, I went back to Hartzell and asked for a chrome new factory replacement for that model prop, and that was the quote. Sigh.... UTVA-66 now back to stock configuration! :-) Mark P.S. please give me your buddies name and contact info if you would not mind. -----Original Message----- From: owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of DAVID STROUD Sent: Sunday, July 04, 2010 9:20 PM Subject: Re: Yak-List: Yak-18T Spinner Four bills for a spinner...I've got a buddy up North with a couple of UTVA's for sale. Honest! It's just a matter of individual taste. I have a YAK-18T spinner on my YAK-50 and love the way it looks. It takes all of about 20 minutes to pull the dome off, but of course I use an electric screw driver and put in new screws everytime I do it. Prop balancing is actually easier now because I have an easy location to add balancing weights. That said, I also have no gills on my engine. None. I also live in North Carolina where it does not get REALLY cold. I've put about 800 hours on the engine that way... No serious issues yet. I also have an oil cooler with a thermostat, and that REALLY regulates the oil temp in the cooler weather, but it probably is not something everyone should do either. Plus a spinner on a Yak not only is not necessary but introduce new risk of vibration and complexity. Each time you need to inspect your prop you have to unmount the spinner first which takes hours. I am really not convinced about that unnecessary device sorry guys. We are speaking about russian Yak, not Cirrus or Cessna...... The rear tach is showing 2300 rpm's at idle and the front is showing 800 rpm's. I have ohmed out the wires,(.001-.004 resistance) changed tach's and tach generator's. I have run the tach generator with a drill and the tach indicates upto 2600 rpm's and varies with the speed of the drill. Any idea if the front tach needs to be in the system or what else is wrong?
