To get a final working procedure I left my aircraft out overnight and left it to 'soak' in the low overnight temperatures we have had recently here in Toowoomba. http://rappsystemscomau.melbourneitwebsites.com/auth/main/sb/preview/stag e/files/starting_the_m14p_from_cold.pdf Cheers, Phil (Gent from Australia - for Mark). p.s. Next write up I am intending to do on the 'shower of sparks' with hopefully meaningful test data to go with it. ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 05:57:36 AM PST US Subject: Yak-List: Re: Yak-18T Jacks From: "n395v" Contact me off list bearcat (@) bearcataviation (dot) com -------- Milt Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=306538#306538 ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 06:43:43 AM PST US Subject: Yak-List: Re: Yak-18T Jacks From: "LawnDart" We use normal jacks however we have made adapters using rod stock and a large steel ball Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=306542#306542 ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 10:08:40 AM PST US Subject: Yak-List: Re: M14P cold starting From: "psb777" Phil, if the crankshaft is turned 720 degrees every piston has gone through each of the 4 cycles of a 4-stroke engine. OK, in various orders, so double it, if you really must. 1440 degrees, or 4 full rotations of the crankshaft. How many (2-bladed prop) propeller blades is that? 4 * .6 = 3.2 prob rotations or 6.4 blades. Call it seven. In what way have you improved the priming of the engine past the seventh blade? I wouldn't bother pulling 16 blades for priming, as you suggest in your notes, as all that fuel-air mixture blown out the exhaust valves cannot help do anything but start an (external to the engine) engine fire. -------- Paul Beardsell HA-YAB http://beardsell.com/flying/ha-yab Yak-18T http://beardsell.com/flying/yak18t Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=306583#306583 ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 04:13:33 PM PST US Subject: Yak-List: CJ 6 Hot Starts From: "Okanogan Lew" Hey Guys, the latest in the on going saga. I checked the points in "the shower of sparks" unit & they were pitted & when activated showed a yellow spark & a crackling sound. I spoke with Doug Sapp & he had a new set off of a defective sparks unit. I installed those, wiping off the oil mist on the inside of my unit. Also, the end of the electro-magnetic that pulls the bottom points down, had a coating of surface rust that I removed with fine sandpaper. I used the gap that was pr-set on the new unit. This I measured with a dial caliper from the top of the adjustment screw(where the slot is) to the bottom of the brace it screws into & the distance was .439 thousands. When activated this time, I got a bright blue spark & a loud snap. Much much stronger. Today I parked the CJ out in the sun for about 3 hours at 85 degrees, primed it three times without pulling the blades thru & it wouldn't start. I gave it two more primes & it fired, but didn't start. Two more primes got it started & running OK. So, I think my problem was a weak spark from the starting ignition coil. Thanks to all for your help. ps Doug says he can't get any more points sets for the shower of sparks unit Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=306617#306617 ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 11:49:09 PM PST US Subject: Yak-List: CJ Placard Kit From: "Harv" Good morning Would anyone know of a good source for a complete CJ6 placard kit in English? I know each aircraft can vary slightly in its requirement but at this stage I'm looking for a complete set of stock CJ placards includingl; the dimmer switch rheostat backings, cowl gills, throttle controls, flap, gear, air, emergency air etc. Please let me know Best regards Martin Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=306640#306640 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Matronics Email List Services ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post A New Message yak-list@matronics.com UN/SUBSCRIBE http://www.matronics.com/subscription List FAQ http://www.matronics.com/FAQ/Yak-List.htm Web Forum Interface To Lists http://forums.matronics.com Matronics List Wiki http://wiki.matronics.com Full Archive Search Engine http://www.matronics.com/search 7-Day List Browse http://www.matronics.com/browse/yak-list Browse Digests http://www.matronics.com/digest/yak-list Browse Other Lists http://www.matronics.com/browse Live Online Chat! http://www.matronics.com/chat Archive Downloading http://www.matronics.com/archives Photo Share http://www.matronics.com/photoshare Other Email Lists http://www.matronics.com/emaillists Contributions http://www.matronics.com/contribution ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These Email List Services are sponsored solely by Matronics and through the generous Contributions of its members.
