Chris,
Thanks and copy all. I have the Taylor plug wire conversion kit.

Have RU harness and plugs and have problem solved, the cause of the problem
was after an annual i cleaned the oil off the back of the engine with kero
and a hose which in turn because the OEM harness was not totally sealed it
leaked a very minuscule amount, have now dried all out and resealed the
rubber compression seals in the oem harness (coincidentally it killed two
plugs in the same cylinder '5') the main point of reply was bring attention
to the simple things as you also suggested.
thanks,
Chris

Hi.
Good to see that someone has seen the same thing, bet it started like this,
run ups ok, on roll all was ok but if you put in full power it improved ?
this recently happened to me in my 52 and after meggering leads and al basic
tests i was convinced that it was valve (after return checked all cylinders
with IR gun), but the little voice in the head that comes from years of drag
racing experience told me to keep basic, after cycling and spot heat testing
i found the problem. It was a small collection of water in the lower plug
leads that would only short out when the temp was enough to let a small
amount run into the plug cap thus when the plug was removed for inspection
your fingers and atmosphere would dry it out just enough to do the cycle
again, the fix was undo all the seals get engine hot and allow to dry then
reseal the harness.
hope this helps

Chris,
The Russian wiring harness is the Achilles heal of the M14 ignition
system. What Doc is referring to is the automotive conversion kit that
I have supplied to the community for several years and he has installed
on his Yak 50. http://www.yak-52.com/plug_conversion.htm. Fits both
the M14's and Housai engines (wiring harness on the Housai engines is
identical to the M14).
The problem you've experience is very common because the braided
shielding on the plug wires is porous which permits oil and moisture to
not only penetrate the braid, but deteriorate the rubber around the plug
wire which is inside the shield. Once the deterioration starts, it only
gets worse. The rubber begins to crack and the plug wire arcs to the
shield, which is grounded, causing a misfire. FWIW, moisture can not
penetrate the caps which connect to the plug wires on the automotive
conversion kit.
If I can be of assistance, contact me off-list.

Taylor does not make the plug wire conversion kit. Taylor custom
manufactures the wires for me that are included in the automotive
conversion kit I offer. Contact me off-list for further information.

I need a few good photos of of CJ-6 cockpits for a Nanchang Buyer's Guide I'm writing.
This will become an RPA store item that will be advertised on Barnstormers
as well. Earlier this year, my hard drive got corrupted and I had to re-format,
losing my photo collection.
The intent of the Buyers Guide is to answer questions prospective buyers have,
highlight this aircraft and generate interest in the general aviation community.
I'm not qualified to write about Yaks but it might be helpful if someone could
write a "Yak Buyers Guide".
Contributor's will get identification of ownership and aircraft. Specifically:
- Fairly Stock Front and Rear cockpit photos; only need 2 pics.
- One full Glass cockpit Centerfold quality photo.
- Something in between, more like what mere mortals fly.
Please reply off-list as I only get the 'digest version.

Dennis,
As far as i know we in australia cannot use the auto conversion (even
though i would prefer this as this problem has been there before thus
short term fix is a little smear of dielectric grease to seal) as our
aircraft are Australian vh registered not experimental and need
approval thru ad's etc to fit these kits.
Thankyou
Chris

Hi Chris,
The 18T and all the Sukhois are also certificated in Europe and we have
obtained full EASA and UK CAA [for other,non-certificated Yaks] approval
to fit the kits.
You are a lot more free in these matters than Europe,so surely no
problem to get CASA approval.
