In addition, I have shipped several kits to individuals in Australia. Based on that, I'm assuming it is acceptable to install the automotive conversion kit. You are a lot more free in these matters than Europe,so surely no problem to get CASA approval. Thankyou Chris On 17/08/2010, at 9:58 PM, A. Dennis Savarese wrote: Chris, The Russian wiring harness is the Achilles heal of the M14 ignition system. What Doc is referring to is the automotive conversion kit that I have supplied to the community for several years and he has installed on his Yak 50. http://www.yak-52.com/plug_conversion.htm. Fits both the M14's and Housai engines (wiring harness on the Housai engines is identical to the M14). The problem you've experience is very common because the braided shielding on the plug wires is porous which permits oil and moisture to not only penetrate the braid, but deteriorate the rubber around the plug wire which is inside the shield. Once the deterioration starts, it only gets worse. The rubber begins to crack and the plug wire arcs to the shield, which is grounded, causing a misfire. FWIW, moisture can not penetrate the caps which connect to the plug wires on the automotive conversion kit. If I can be of assistance, contact me off-list. With the Taylor plug wire and auto plug conversion you are getting water under the plug cap? I can see moister leeching in along the wire bundle as they enter the distributor cap cover but I suspect you have to be flying through some pretty heavy precip for that. At least that is my theory. Have not ops tested it that theory though. Doc From: owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of CHRIS ABBOTT Sent: Monday, August 16, 2010 4:05 PM To: yak-list@matronics.com Subject: Re: Yak-List: Down in IVY Hi. Good to see that someone has seen the same thing, bet it started like this, run ups ok, on roll all was ok but if you put in full power it improved ? this recently happened to me in my 52 and after meggering leads and al basic tests i was convinced that it was valve (after return checked all cylinders with IR gun), but the little voice in the head that comes from years of drag racing experience told me to keep basic, after cycling and spot heat testing i found the problem. It was a small collection of water in the lower plug leads that would only short out when the temp was enough to let a small amount run into the plug cap thus when the plug was removed for inspection your fingers and atmosphere would dry it out just enough to do the cycle again, the fix was undo all the seals get engine hot and allow to dry then reseal the harness. hope this helps On 16/08/2010, at 10:07 PM, cjpilot710@aol.com wrote: Well tried to head south from DE to FL yesterday. After a :45 delay trying to get fuel and oil at ILG, I finally blasted off. Just about 10 minutes at cruise, my M-14 started running rough. At first I thought it was carburetor ice, but heat didn't clear it. Temps, fuel and oil pressures were normal. I turned around back for ILG but than saw a airport at my 9 landed there. Wife was able to drive a pick me up. Today I start to find out what's wrong. After yaking (no pun intended) with Lefty I'm thinking a stuck valve and will pursue that direction first. Also plan on changing out all the plugs. Most likely will get rained on today. href="http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Yak-List">http://www.matronics .com/Navigator?Yak-Listhref="http://forums.matronics.com">http://forums .matronics.comhref="http://www.matronics.com/contribution">http://www.m atronics.com/contribution http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Yak-Listhttp://forums.matronics.comhtt p://www.matronics.com/contribution style="color: blue; text-decoration: underline; ">http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Yak-List blue; text-decoration: underline; ">http://forums.matronics.com style="color: blue; text-decoration: underline; ">http://www.matronics.com/c href="http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Yak-List">http://www.matronics .com/Navigator?Yak-List href="http://forums.matronics.com">http://forums.matronics.com href="http://www.matronics.com/contribution">http://www.matronics.com/c href="http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Yak-List">http://www.matronhre f="http://forums.matronics.com">http://forums.matronics.com href="http://www.matronics.com/contribution">http://www.matronics.com/c ontribution href="http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Yak-List">http://www.matronics .com/Navigator?Yak-List href="http://forums.matronics.com">http://forums.matronics.com href="http://www.matronics.com/contribution">http://www.matronics.com/c
