Even Termikas says that it is impossible but it is not.... The front adjusting shoulder straps can "easily" be changed. My saddler says that and he has changed both seats with new straps. His comment was just : Simple but efficient as russian know how. What I do remember is that there is a spring in the upper part and the belt are strongly tight to the rod by a small metalic part that can be slipped. Then you can replace the belt. I don't think I have any pics of the mechanism. The only thing I can say is that it is possible not only to overhaul this mechanism but to change the straps. Sorry for so few informations. I got them in stock original Russian complete set. Very often happens that there is corrosion on internal parts or even corroded or damaged inside plating of cylinder wall. First open it and see whats inside. It is not very difficult to change seals but maybe you would need special tool to open it. A simpler solution is to leave part of the Russian strap that is attached to the inertia reel, and then to join on (but only with someone experienced in these things) a shortened Hooker strap. In this way, when extended, you will obviously see the original Russian strap, but in normal use, and when retracted you only see the Hooker. (I would also say that we tend to cover the seats in leather, and so this also covers the inertia mechanism). Yak-52 I see that people are talking about old 52 buckles. I am not sure which ones are being spoken of, but the first type, which was held shut with a lever, caused a number of fatalities when accidently released, and there is a Specific Service Bulletin prohibiting its use.
