What does suprise me is that some seem to think that it is very high! To an extent it must be because because they are still in this dream world where these planes were sold at prices that bore no relation to their manufacturing costs or to their actual value. In 1991 I bought a batch of NEW Yak 52's,with all extras and ground equipment for $40,000 each [and sold them for not a huge amount more!]. Also, anyone who has any experience of Government to Government military contracts will know that everything is expensive-and that is not just in the East!! The pressure gauge is the only HP outlet on a scuba setup. When you have charged up your Yak, turn the scuba tank off and release the back pressure through the scuba mouthpiece. With this setup all you need to carry is the adaptor and HP hose as a scuba tank and regulator are generally not too hard to get hold of. Remove the valve core since it is not needed. Then wherever you go you can usually find a compressed air or nitrogen bottle with a screw on Schrader valve adapter. Five minutes at 100% is the number I remember also. Found the manual. Ceaseless engine function duration - in T-O condition - 5 minutes, maximum - at maximum engine speed - 1 minute maximum - other conditions - unlimited Cylinders heads temperature -advisable - 40-190 deg C -maximum, at prolonged engine function - 220 deg C - maximum admitted at T-O and climb for max. 15 minutes ( tortal duration maximum 5% from resource ) - 240 deg C - maximum admitted for normal engine running - 120 deg C This is from the original translated Russian IAK-52 Flight manual. Still does not answer the question of what is the limiting factor. My gut feeling is still CHT since the cylinder head is the source of the majority of engine heat anyway.
