As a footnote though Richard, the 100 kilos or 220 pounds in the rear cockpit was with the Russian ADF and flight recorder still in the airplane. Using the W&B that came with my plane and the one Cliff attached to this email string my plane is not within limits for solo acro, it is nose heavy. Numerous people have told me this would not create a problem as it just means the plane would be less likely to spin or at least easier to recover from a spin. If this is true why would that area of the chart not include acro? My own experience has not shown any problems entering or recovering from normal, upright spins which is all I have attempted. Am I asking for trouble? I've attached a copy of the Excel sheet I've developed. It's a little easier to use than the printed sheet you have. If there's a question as to my derivation of these numbers, contact me off list. Thanks Richard. I echo your sentiments about getting the proper training from the right people. The question was an academic one. Continuing that, (Dennis chime in if you know), Would anyone happen to know the CG of the aircraft tested? Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=325018#325018

If you are forward of the C of G limit in a 52,I assume that there have been changes to the plane -probably removal of the equipment behind the rear seat. The plane will be more reluctant to spin, and indeed recover more easily,BUT,by definition will not be such a nice plane with which to fly aerobatics,in that it will be more stable and will not want to pitch etc. Richard Goode Aerobatics Rhodds Farm Lyonshall Hereford HR5 3LW United Kingdom Tel: +44 (0) 1544 340120 Fax: +44 (0) 1544 340129 www.russianaeros.com I'm currently in Sri Lanka but this Mail is working, and my local phone is +94 779 132 160. ----- Original Message ----- From: Steven Johnson To: yak-list@matronics.com Sent: Thursday, December 30, 2010 7:07 PM Subject: RE: Yak-List: Re: Yak-52 Weight and Balance Using the W&B that came with my plane and the one Cliff attached to this email string my plane is not within limits for solo acro, it is nose heavy. If you're referring to the "Spins Unspun" article, the test aircraft, according to the article, had a CG of 18% MAC, which is clearly a forward CG. As I remember, without digging into additional documentation, the design CG range for the Yak 52 is 19-25% MAC. http://www.patricksaviation.com/videos/SUPERGT/3384/ This is a great HUD film of an F-16 deadstick landing. Listen to the coordination of his Flight to help bring him (#4) in safely. We should always have a flight lead or two to help us out! Happy New Year and fly safely! >> Jay

Oops, sorry Dennis, I meant the article from quite a few years ago (saw the 18% reference in "Spins Unspun". Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=325050#325050
