Subject: | Re: GT YAK blades |
I recently installed a set of Whirlwind blades on a Yak 52. The
aircraft owner paid $6K USD for them. I'll be installing another set on
another Yak 52 in a couple of weeks along with Whirlwind's new spinner,
which looks a lot like the big spinner on the MTV-9 prop. I believe the
Whirlwind spinner is $1.5K and fits the V530 hub regardless of whether
the the blades are Whirlwind, GT or the original Russian paddle blades.
Speaking of Russian blades, if anyone is interested in a pair of Russian
blades which were removed from the Yak 52 with the Whirlwind blades,
contact me off list at dsavarese0812@bellsouth.net. Have them at a good
price.

Subject: | Re: GT YAK blades |
Hi, Chris...
Yes, I have a set on my Yak-52, and they've been great. The main
advantages: Very smooth and any balancing needed was due to the hub, not
the blades. Obvious increase in thrust on the ground roll, which is
shorter. Pull off the runway is more dramatic. After that, climb is a
bit better, and cruise pretty close to the stock blades. The finish is
lovely, like most modern propellers and the leading edge is
bullet-proof. Other than that, I like the fact that there have been many
sets of these in use for several years, and they're available. The price
is right in there with the other (new) blade alternatives (off list if
you want details).
With the old blades in short supply, I think we're lucky to have all of
these options in a niche market. If you've seen the Whirlwind
restoration of the old blades, you know what kind of work they do, but
of course, you need to start with a set of (old) blades, which you may
not have available. If you had to get some used blades, then have them
restored, the price is usually pretty close. The new blade options that
are being developed now are coming from people we all trust. Without
George and Cliff, Jill and Carl, Dennis, Doug, Richard, Jim, and I know
I'm forgetting a few, we'd be in trouble. Having said all of this, we've
gotten to know GT, mainly because they've been at some events in our
region. When you meet them face to face, you're very impressed with
their propellers and what they've been doing over the years. I guess
we're "spoilt for choice" as the British might say.

Prospective Yak/CJ Buyers;
Here is a sample of what I'm talking about when I referred to the GT Propeller.
My problem is not with the product but with the attitude of their Sales Office:
Craig Payne

From: Humberto Dramisino <humbertod@gt-propellers.com> [Edit Address Book]
Subject: Re: conosci
Dear Craig,
I just receive this email back from GT and it looks like that the only thing got
lost in the translation is the is the fact if you have the money to buy or not.
I wrote you many emails if you wish i can forwarded back all of them to you, but
looks like at the end you want a free set of blade.
Sorry Craig here at GT we doing business we don't have time to deal with bullshit.
Are you ready to pay? We are ready to show you that this is the best propeller
for your stock hub.
Let us know when you are ready to do serious business.
Best regards,
Humberto Dramisino
