That was the case with the start valve on my 50. So I think that this was the original situation on the Yak 50 (older than the 52). Gradually these valves were replaced with valves from the 52. We have some voltage regulators (used) here if you need one. We also have an alternator conversion kit that will replace the voltage regulator, the overvoltage controller, the DMR-200 relay and the Generator with a FAA approved alternator and solid state regulator. We even have a service bulletin for the kit for the Yak-52. George Coy CAS Ltd. 714 Airport Rd. Subject: CJ6a Housai cylinder head cracked
    From: "Harv" <martin.harvey@kbr.com>
Good afternoon. Well its not been a good day thus far, we've discovered a cylinder head crack right across the exhaust valve seat and into the head on No. 5 cylinder :( The engine has not been run since it left the PLAAF so I'm assuming poor handling (possible over-cooling in the descent, who knows????). Maybe they will help out with parts but I dont know yet... Can the head be swapped without replacing cylinder and piston? OR do we need to replace the whole of No5 assembly? Any experiences or previous findings would be greatly appreciated! Regards Harv Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=329305#329305

I would recommend replacing the #5 cylinder; the complete assembly. If you were to try to remove the head from the barrel, you'd still have to remove the cylinder completely. Then to find just the head might be a challenge. Definitely not worth the effort and cost. Call Doug as I'm confident he can supply you with a cylinder. Cheers, I'm potentially looking at removing all the cylinders for an inspection and clean up of valves and seats, re-lapping etc. The trouble as I can see it is you just don't know whats gone on with it in the past? Can tdc height of the pistons be measured closely enough to establish if we had any bent connecting rods from hydraulic'd cylinders? Thus might be an opportunity to fit total seal piston rings? Not that I want to create more work, I just want the peace of mind. Rgs Harv Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=329327#329327

Even if you were able to accurately measure the link rod lengths (the master rod is the shortest and there are 4 other link rod lengths ranging from .15mm to .39mm longer), I don't think that would give you the peace of mind you're looking for. I've always believed that peace of mind equals a bit more work. And since you fly behind this engine, a bit more work WOULD be well worth the effort and give you the peace of mind you're looking for. I does make me wonder what caused the cracked valve seat. Whats the best procedure for checking straightness of the rods? TIA Harv Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=329331#329331

Subject: Composite V530 Propeller Blades & Spinners
    From: "WhirlWind" <wwpc@whirlwindpropellers.com>
Hello, this is Patti at Whirl Wind Propellers. I have seen a number of questions regarding the new composite blades and spinner now available for the V530 propellers, so I thought it would be a good idea to post some information on our newest products to this list. Whirl Wind is now shipping the new composite W530 propeller blades which are a direct replacement for the wood V530 propeller blades as well as the 20" diameter composite spinner that works with either the V530 or W530 blades. http://www.whirlwindpropellers.com/v530/index.html W530 Composite Blades The new WhirlWind W530 all-composite blades are designed to fit the existing V530 propeller hub on M-14P engine powered aircraft. The W530 blades have an updated blade twist distribution, new airfoils and a unique profile to give improved take-off, climb, and cruise performance with smooth quiet operation. The unique Whisper Tip scimitar blade planform reduces aerodynamic transonic drag, increases efficiency and reduces prop noise. This means more performance for your airplane, and less noise from the propeller. The W530 has an increased diameter of 98.5 (250cm) which translates to better climb performance. There is also a 6 lbs weight savings with the new W530 blades. The picture below shows the new W530 blades installed on Ryan Carroll's Yak 52. Ryan has done some test flying to compare the V530 and W530 blade performance. He is on this list and would probably be a good resource to answer questions regarding performance or installation of the W530 blades. New W530 Diameter: 250 cm (98.5 inches) Construction: Thermo-set Aerospace Graphite composite Leading Edge: Flush bond Nickel Weight: 15.5 lbs (6 lbs savings per set) Original Wood V530 Diameter: 240 cm (94.5 inches) Construction: Wood Leading Edge: Riveted Multi-piece Stainless Weight: 18.5 lbs Spinners We also have a new composite 20" diameter spinner that will turn your trainer into a fighter. The spinner comes with front & rear bulkheads installed, nutplates installed. The spinner will arrive fitted & trimmed with a primer coat ready for paint. The current price is $1,500 USD plus shipping. Please feel welcome to call or email me with any questions and I would be happy to talk with you. Where to Buy The W530 composite blades and the 20" Spinner can be purchased from: M-14P.com and WhirlWindPropellers.com Current Pricing* W530 Blades: $6,000 per set 20" Spinner: $1,500 *All prices USD, **All prices are subject to change without notice, *** Prices do not include shipping cost Sincerely, Patti Whirl Wind Propellers wwpdc@whirlwindpropellers.com 619-562-3725 Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=329352#329352 Attachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/w530_post_195.jpg http://forums.matronics.com//files/v530spinner_dwg_post_154.jpg http://forums.matronics.com//files/20inch_v530spinner_post_411.jpg
